How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will tell you the right dose. Usually, adults start with 300-900 mg daily, which can be increased to a maximum of 3600 mg per day. For children 6 and older, the dose is 25-35 mg per kg of body weight daily.

Method

Take the tablets whole or halved, with plenty of water. You can take them with or without food.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Viral infection
  • Drowsiness, dizziness, lack of coordination
  • Tiredness, fever
  • Pneumonia, respiratory infections, urinary tract infection, ear infection or other infections
  • Low white blood cell count
  • Loss of appetite, increased appetite
  • Hostility, confusion, mood changes, depression, anxiety, nervousness, difficulty thinking
  • Seizures, jerky movements, speech problems, memory loss, tremors, insomnia, headache, skin sensitivity, numbness, coordination problems, unusual eye movements, increased/decreased or absent reflexes
  • Blurred vision, double vision
  • Vertigo (spinning sensation)
  • High blood pressure, flushing (redness of face), or widening of blood vessels
  • Breathing difficulties, bronchitis, sore throat, cough, dry nose lining
  • Vomiting, nausea, dental problems, inflamed gums, diarrhea, stomach pain, indigestion, constipation, dry mouth or throat, gas
  • Swelling of face, bruises, rash, itching, acne
  • Joint pain, muscle pain, back pain, muscle twitching
  • Erectile dysfunction (impotence)
  • Swelling of arms and legs, difficulty walking, weakness, pain, feeling unwell, flu-like symptoms
  • Decreased white blood cell count, weight gain
  • Accidental injury, fracture, abrasion
  • Aggressive behavior and jerky movements (in children)
RARE
  • Agitation (restlessness and involuntary movements)
  • Allergic reaction, such as hives
  • Increased blood sugar level (most common in diabetics)
  • Decreased movement
  • Heart palpitations
  • Swelling that can affect the face, upper body, and limbs
  • Mental impairment, psychological disorder
  • Falls
  • Abnormal blood test results indicating liver problems
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Decreased blood sugar level (most common in diabetics)
  • Loss of consciousness
  • Breathing difficulties, shallow breathing (respiratory depression)
  • Decreased platelet count (cells important for blood clotting)
  • Low sodium level in blood
  • Suicidal thoughts, hallucinations
  • Problems with abnormal movements, such as writhing or jerky movements and stiffness
  • Ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
  • Yellowing of skin and eyes (jaundice), liver inflammation
  • Breakdown of muscle fibers (rhabdomyolysis)
  • Acute kidney failure, urinary incontinence
  • Breast enlargement, increased breast tissue
  • Sexual dysfunction, including inability to achieve orgasm, delayed ejaculation
  • Withdrawal symptoms after suddenly stopping gabapentin (anxiety, insomnia, nausea, pain, sweating), chest pain
  • Changes in blood test results (increased creatine phosphokinase)
  • Anaphylactic reaction (severe, life-threatening allergic reaction with breathing difficulties, swelling of lips, throat, and tongue, and low blood pressure requiring immediate treatment)
  • Development of dependence on Gabapentin Orion (drug dependence)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to gabapentin or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney problems or are on dialysis, as your dose may need to be changed.
  • Seek immediate medical help if you get severe stomach pain, nausea, and vomiting, as these could be signs of pancreatitis.
  • Be aware that you might become dependent on this medicine, especially if you have a history of drug or alcohol abuse.
  • If you have thoughts of harming yourself or suicide, contact your doctor immediately.

  • Stop taking this medicine and get medical help right away if you develop severe skin rashes, blisters, peeling skin, or sores in the mouth, throat, nose, or eyes. These can be serious reactions.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you experience muscle weakness, tenderness, or pain, especially if you also feel unwell or have a high fever, as this can indicate serious muscle damage.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly without talking to your doctor, as it can cause withdrawal symptoms or worsening of your condition.
