How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose. For adults, it usually starts at 300-900 mg daily and can be increased up to 3600 mg daily. For children aged 6 years and older, the dose is based on their weight.

Method

Take the tablets whole or halved by mouth with plenty of water, without chewing. Doses are usually split into three times a day: morning, afternoon, and evening.

Important

The maximum daily dose for adults is 3600 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Virus infection
  • Feeling sleepy, dizzy, or having difficulty coordinating movements
  • Tiredness, fever
  • Pneumonia, breathing infections, bladder infections, ear infections, or other infections
  • Low number of white blood cells
  • Loss of appetite or increased appetite
  • Aggression, confusion, mood swings, depression, anxiety, nervousness, or difficulty thinking clearly
  • Seizures, jerky movements, speech difficulties, memory loss, tremors, trouble sleeping, headaches, sensitive skin, numbness, coordination issues, unusual eye movements, or changes in reflexes
  • Blurred vision, double vision
  • Spinning sensation (vertigo)
  • High blood pressure, flushing (redness), or widening of blood vessels
  • Breathing difficulties, bronchitis, sore throat, cough, or dry nose/throat
  • Vomiting, nausea, dental problems, inflamed gums, diarrhea, stomach pain, indigestion, constipation, dry mouth/throat, or gas
  • Swelling of the face, bruises, rash, itching, or acne
  • Joint pain, muscle pain, back pain, or muscle twitching
  • Difficulty getting an erection (impotence)
  • Swelling in arms and legs, difficulty walking, weakness, pain, general feeling of being unwell, or flu-like symptoms
  • Weight gain
  • Accidental injury, fractures, or scrapes
  • Aggressive behavior or jerky movements (in children)
RARE
  • Agitation (restlessness and involuntary movements)
  • Allergic reaction, such as hives
  • Increased blood sugar levels (most often in diabetics)
  • Decreased movement
  • Heart palpitations
  • Swelling of face, upper body, or limbs
  • Mental disorder
  • Falls
  • Abnormal liver blood test results
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Decreased blood sugar levels (most often in diabetics)
  • Loss of consciousness
  • Breathing difficulties, shallow breathing (respiratory depression)
  • Decreased number of platelets (blood cells important for clotting)
  • Low sodium level in blood
  • Thoughts of self-harm, hallucinations
  • Problems with abnormal movements such as twisting or jerky movements and stiffness
  • Ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
  • Yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), liver inflammation
  • Breakdown of muscle fibers (rhabdomyolysis)
  • Acute kidney failure, incontinence
  • Breast tissue enlargement, breast enlargement
  • Sexual problems including inability to get an orgasm, delayed ejaculation
  • Withdrawal symptoms after stopping gabapentin (anxiety, sleep problems, nausea, pain, sweating, tremors), chest pain
  • Changes in blood test results (increased creatinine phosphokinase)
  • Anaphylaxis (severe, life-threatening allergic reaction)
  • Becoming dependent on Gabapentin Orion ('drug dependence')

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to gabapentin or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • If you have kidney problems or are on dialysis, your doctor may adjust your dose. Tell your doctor if you experience muscle pain or weakness.
  • Seek immediate medical attention if you experience severe stomach pain, nausea, and vomiting, as these could be signs of pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas).
  • If you have nervous system problems, breathing issues, or are over 65, tell your doctor, as your dose may need to be adjusted.
  • Inform your doctor if you have a history of alcohol, prescription medicine, or drug misuse, as you may be at a higher risk of becoming dependent on Gabapentin Orion.

  • A small number of people taking gabapentin have had thoughts of harming themselves or suicide. If you have these thoughts, contact your doctor immediately.
  • Stop taking this medicine and seek immediate medical help if you develop serious skin reactions like red patches, blisters, peeling skin, mouth sores, or a widespread rash with fever and swollen glands (symptoms of Stevens-Johnson syndrome, Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis, or DRESS).
  • Get immediate medical help if you have muscle weakness, tenderness, or pain, especially if you also feel unwell or have a high fever, as these could be signs of serious muscle breakdown leading to kidney problems.
  • Gabapentin Orion can cause a severe allergic reaction affecting your skin or other parts of your body, like your liver or blood cells. You may or may not have a rash. Hospitalization or stopping Gabapentin Orion may be needed.
  • Do not stop taking Gabapentin Orion suddenly, as this can cause withdrawal symptoms like seizures, anxiety, and sleep problems. Always talk to your doctor first about how to stop the medicine gradually.
