How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will usually start you on 300-900 mg per day, then gradually increase it up to 3600 mg per day.

Method

Take tablets whole with water, three times a day (morning, afternoon, and evening). You can take it with or without food.

Important

Do not take more than 3600 mg in one day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Virus infection
  • Drowsiness, dizziness, problems with coordination
  • Feeling tired, fever
  • Lung infection, breathing infections, bladder infections, ear infections, or other infections
  • Low white blood cell count
  • Loss of appetite, or increased appetite
  • Hostility, confusion, mood changes, depression, anxiety, nervousness, problems thinking clearly
  • Seizures, jerky movements, speech problems, memory loss, shaking, trouble sleeping, headache, sensitive skin, numbness, problems with coordination, unusual eye movements, changes in reflexes
  • Blurred vision, double vision
  • Spinning sensation (vertigo)
  • High blood pressure, flushing, widened blood vessels
  • Breathing difficulties, bronchitis, sore throat, cough, dry nose or throat, vomiting, nausea, dental problems, inflamed gums, diarrhea, stomach pain, indigestion, constipation, dry mouth or throat, gas
  • Swelling of face, bruises, rashes, itching, acne
  • Joint pain, muscle pain, back pain, muscle twitching
  • Erectile dysfunction (impotence)
  • Swelling in arms or legs, difficulty walking, weakness, pain, feeling generally unwell, flu-like symptoms
  • Decreased white blood cell count, weight gain
  • Accidents, fractures, scrapes
  • Aggressive behavior, jerky movements (common in children)
RARE
  • Agitation (restlessness and involuntary movements)
  • Allergic reactions, like hives
  • Decreased movement
  • Heart palpitations
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Swelling of face, body, or limbs
  • Abnormal liver blood test results
  • Reduced mental function
  • Falls
  • High blood sugar levels (common in diabetics)
  • Low blood sugar levels (common in diabetics)
  • Loss of consciousness
  • Breathing problems, shallow breathing (respiratory depression)
  • Decreased number of platelets (blood cells that help blood clot)
  • Suicidal thoughts, hallucinations
  • Problems with abnormal movements (like writhing, twitching, and stiffness)
  • Ringing in the ears
  • Yellow skin or eyes (jaundice), liver inflammation
  • Sudden kidney failure, inability to control urination
  • Increased breast tissue, breast enlargement
  • Withdrawal symptoms after stopping gabapentin (anxiety, trouble sleeping, nausea, pain, sweating), chest pain
  • Muscle breakdown (rhabdomyolysis)
  • Changes in blood test results (increased creatine phosphokinase)
  • Sexual problems (like inability to have an orgasm, delayed ejaculation)
  • Low sodium levels in the blood
  • Anaphylaxis (severe, life-threatening allergic reaction with breathing problems, swelling of lips, throat, or tongue, and low blood pressure)
  • Developing dependence on Gabapentin Actavis

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to gabapentin or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney problems, as your dose may need to be adjusted.
  • Seek immediate medical attention if you get severe stomach pain, feel sick, or vomit, as these could be signs of a serious pancreas issue.
  • If you have thoughts of harming yourself or suicide, contact your doctor immediately.
  • Stop taking this medicine and see a doctor right away if you develop severe skin rashes, peeling skin, mouth sores, or swollen glands, with or without fever.

  • Contact your doctor immediately if you experience muscle weakness, tenderness, or pain, especially with high fever or feeling unwell, as this could be a sign of serious muscle damage leading to kidney problems.
  • If you have serious breathing difficulties, seek urgent medical help.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Sedative. Reduce the dose already in mild renal impairment. Note especially central nervous system adverse effects. Take the several interactions in the absorption phase into account. (updated 14.4.2025)
