How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 300-900 mg daily, which your doctor may gradually increase.

Method

Take the capsules whole with plenty of water, usually divided into three doses: morning, afternoon, and evening.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 3600 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Viral infection
  • Drowsiness, dizziness, lack of coordination
  • Tiredness, fever
  • Pneumonia, respiratory infections, urinary tract infections, ear infections, or other infections
  • Low white blood cell count
  • Loss of appetite, increased appetite
  • Hostility, confusion, mood swings, depression, anxiety, nervousness, difficulty thinking
  • Seizures, jerky movements, speech problems, memory loss, tremor, difficulty with coordination, abnormal eye movements, increased or decreased reflexes
  • Headache, sensitive skin, numbness (reduced sense of touch)
  • Blurred vision, double vision
  • Spinning sensation (vertigo)
  • High blood pressure, flushing, widening of blood vessels
  • Breathing difficulties, bronchitis, sore throat, cough, dry nose
  • Vomiting, nausea, dental problems, gum inflammation, diarrhea, stomach pain, indigestion, constipation, dry mouth or throat, gas
  • Facial swelling, bruises, rash, itching, acne
  • Joint pain, muscle pain, back pain, muscle twitching
  • Erection problems (impotence)
  • Swelling in legs and arms, difficulty walking, weakness, pain, feeling unwell, flu-like symptoms
  • Weight gain
  • Accidental injury, fracture, scrape
  • Aggressive behavior (reported in children)
RARE
  • Agitation (restlessness and involuntary movements)
  • Allergic reactions, such as hives, heart palpitations, or severe whole-body allergic reaction (anaphylaxis)
  • Reduced movement
  • Abnormal blood test results indicating liver problems (jaundice, liver inflammation)
  • Mental disorder, hallucinations, suicidal thoughts
  • Falls
  • High blood sugar (common in diabetics), low blood sugar (common in diabetics)
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Dependence on the medicine
  • Decreased number of platelets (cells that help blood clot)
  • Abnormal movements such as writhing, jerky movements, and stiffness
  • Ringing in the ears
  • Sudden kidney failure, inability to control urination
  • Increased breast tissue, breast enlargement
  • Withdrawal symptoms after stopping treatment (anxiety, insomnia, nausea, pain, sweating, chest pain)
  • Muscle breakdown (rhabdomyolysis)
  • Changes in blood test results (increased creatinine phosphokinase)
  • Sexual problems, including difficulty achieving orgasm, delayed ejaculation
  • Low sodium level in the blood
  • Breathing difficulties, shallow breathing (respiratory depression)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to gabapentin or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney problems, as your dose may need to be adjusted.
  • Inform your doctor if you have ever misused alcohol, prescription medicines, or illegal drugs, as you may be at a higher risk of becoming dependent on this medicine.
  • Seek immediate medical attention if you experience severe stomach pain, nausea, and vomiting, as these could be signs of acute pancreatitis.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you have thoughts of harming yourself or suicide.

  • Stop taking this medicine and seek immediate medical help if you notice any severe skin reactions, such as red patches, blistering, peeling skin, fever, or swollen lymph nodes.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you experience muscle weakness, tenderness, or pain, especially if you also feel unwell or have a high fever, as these may indicate severe muscle breakdown.
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking opioids (e.g., morphine) as Gabapentin Accord can increase their effects, leading to drowsiness, slowed breathing, or death.
  • If you take antacids containing aluminum and magnesium, take Gabapentin Accord at least two hours after the antacid to ensure proper absorption.
  • Do not drive or operate complex machinery until you know how this medicine affects your ability to perform such tasks, as it can cause dizziness, drowsiness, and fatigue.
  • If you are pregnant or planning pregnancy, tell your doctor immediately to discuss potential risks to the unborn child and do not stop treatment without consulting your doctor.
  • Do not stop taking Gabapentin Accord suddenly without talking to your doctor, as this can lead to withdrawal symptoms like seizures, anxiety, insomnia, nausea, pain, sweating, tremors, headache, depression, unusual feelings, dizziness, and general discomfort.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Sedative. Reduce the dose already in mild renal impairment. Note especially central nervous system adverse effects. Take the several interactions in the absorption phase into account. (updated 14.4.2025)
