How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will tell you the exact dose. Typically, the starting dose is 300-900 mg daily, and it can be increased up to a maximum of 3600 mg daily.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with plenty of water, with or without food. Take the daily dose divided into three separate times: morning, afternoon, and evening.

The maximum daily dose is 3600 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Viral infection
  • Drowsiness, dizziness, lack of coordination
  • Tiredness, fever
RARE
  • Pneumonia, respiratory, urinary, ear, or other infections
  • Low white blood cell count
  • Loss or increase of appetite
  • Mood swings, depression, anxiety, insomnia, difficulty thinking
  • Seizures, twitching movements, speech problems, memory loss, tremor, headache, skin sensitivity, decreased sensation (numbness), coordination problems, unusual eye movements, altered reflexes
  • Blurred vision, double vision
  • Vertigo
  • High blood pressure, flushing, or widening of blood vessels
  • Breathing difficulties, bronchitis, sore throat, cough, dry nose
  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, stomach pain, indigestion, dry mouth or throat, flatulence
  • Facial swelling, bruising, rash, itching, acne
  • Joint pain, muscle pain, back pain, muscle twitching
  • Erectile dysfunction (impotence)
  • Swelling of arms and legs, difficulty walking, weakness, pain, feeling unwell, flu-like symptoms
  • Weight gain
  • Accidental injury, fracture, abrasion
  • Aggressive behavior and twitching movements (in children)
  • Agitation (restlessness and involuntary movements)
  • Allergic reaction, such as hives
  • Decreased movement
  • Palpitations
  • Swelling that may affect face, upper body, and limbs
  • Abnormal blood test results indicating liver problems
  • Falls
  • Impaired mental function
  • Increased or decreased blood sugar (in diabetics)
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Loss of consciousness
  • Breathing difficulties, shallow breathing (respiratory depression)
  • Decreased platelets (blood cells important for clotting)
  • Hallucinations
  • Yellow skin and eyes (jaundice), liver inflammation
  • Acute kidney failure, incontinence
  • Breast enlargement (in men and women)
  • Muscle breakdown (rhabdomyolysis)
  • Abnormal blood tests (increased creatine phosphokinase)
  • Sexual dysfunction, including inability to orgasm, delayed ejaculation
  • Low blood sodium
  • Anaphylactic reaction (severe, potentially life-threatening allergic reaction with breathing difficulties, swelling of lips, throat, tongue, and low blood pressure requiring urgent medical attention)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to gabapentin or any other ingredients.
  • If you have kidney problems, your doctor may adjust your dose.
  • Tell your doctor if you have ever misused alcohol, prescription medicines, or illegal drugs, as you might have a higher risk of becoming dependent on this medicine.
  • Seek immediate medical attention if you experience severe stomach pain, nausea, and vomiting, as these could be signs of acute pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas).
  • Stop taking the medicine and see a doctor immediately if you get severe skin rashes with red spots, blistering, peeling skin, or sores in the mouth, throat, nose, genitals, and eyes, possibly with fever (Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, DRESS).

  • Contact a doctor immediately if you experience muscle weakness, tenderness, or pain, especially if you also feel unwell or have a high fever, as this could indicate severe muscle damage leading to kidney problems.
  • If you have thoughts of harming yourself or suicide, contact your doctor immediately.
  • This medicine can cause dizziness, drowsiness, and tiredness. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how it affects you.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Sedative. Reduce the dose already in mild renal impairment. Note especially central nervous system adverse effects. Take the several interactions in the absorption phase into account. (updated 14.4.2025)
