How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose for adults is 20-80 mg daily, but your doctor will tell you exactly how much to take; for children, the doctor determines the dose based on weight, usually 1-3 mg/kg/day.

Method

Take the tablet(s) with a glass of water at least 30 minutes before a meal.

Important

Your doctor will determine your maximum daily dose, as it varies by condition; for children, it is usually 40 mg per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Increased need to urinate
  • Feeling dizzy or lightheaded, especially when standing up, due to low blood pressure
  • Changes in blood mineral levels (like potassium or sodium) and dehydration, which can cause thirst, muscle cramps, weakness, stomach upset, or irregular heartbeat.
RARE
  • Allergic skin reactions like rash, itching, or hives
  • Hearing problems, including temporary or permanent deafness, or ringing in the ears
  • Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea
  • Increased blood sugar levels
  • Severe skin reactions with blisters, peeling skin, or fever (e.g., Stevens-Johnson syndrome)
  • Changes in blood cell counts, such as too few white blood cells or platelets, or anemia (low red blood cells)
  • Liver problems (like jaundice or increased liver enzymes) or kidney problems (like inflammation)
  • Feeling confused or restless (in serious cases)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to furosemide or similar medicines (sulfonamides).
  • Do not take this medicine if you have severe kidney disease with very little urine, or severe liver disease that affects your brain.
  • Do not take this medicine if your blood has very low levels of potassium or sodium, or if you are severely dehydrated.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are breastfeeding.
  • This medicine can cause dizziness. Do not drive or operate machinery if you feel dizzy or your attention is impaired.
