How to Use

Dosage

For adults, the usual starting dose is 20-120 mg once daily, and for continued treatment, 20-40 mg every day or every other day. For children, the dose is 1-3 mg/kg per day.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole on an empty stomach, at least one hour before a meal or two hours after a meal. Take the medicine with a glass of water or another drink. If you have trouble swallowing the whole tablet, you can break it along the score line.

Important

For adults, maximum 120 mg per day. For children, maximum 3 mg/kg per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Dehydration (loss of body fluids).
  • Salt imbalances, such as low levels of potassium, magnesium, sodium, or calcium.
  • Imbalances in the body's acid-base levels.
RARE
  • Severe dizziness or fainting, intense dizziness, headache, muscle cramps, or irregular heartbeat.
  • Severe skin reactions, such as purplish spots, peeling skin, or blistering.
  • Severe allergic reactions (anaphylactic shock).
  • Widespread rash, fever, and swollen lymph nodes (DRESS syndrome).
  • Changes in blood sugar, high uric acid (gout), or blood fat levels.
  • Reduced blood volume or low blood pressure.
  • Restlessness, vision problems, or numbness.
  • Hearing problems: ringing in ears (tinnitus) or hearing loss (sometimes permanent).
  • Dry mouth, constant thirst, nausea, stomach problems, or muscle cramps.
  • Difficulty urinating or inability to urinate.
  • Weakness or feeling tired.
  • Bone marrow problems, low white blood cells, low red blood cells (anemia), or low platelets.
  • Inflammation of blood vessels, kidneys, or pancreas; bile duct blockage.
  • Rashes, sensitive skin to sunlight, or fever.
  • Lupus (SLE) becoming active or getting worse.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Furesis tablets if you are allergic to furosemide, sulfa drugs, or other ingredients.
  • Do not use Furesis tablets if you have severe liver disease, such as hepatic coma.
  • Do not use Furesis tablets if your body has fluid or salt imbalances, such as dehydration or low sodium/potassium levels.
  • Do not use Furesis tablets if you cannot urinate or if urination is blocked.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have heart, kidney, or liver problems or diabetes, as you may need blood tests.

  • Talk to your doctor if you have gout, an enlarged prostate, or urinary incontinence.
  • Talk to your doctor if your ears start ringing or your hearing gets worse during treatment.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have SLE (an autoimmune disease where your body's immune system attacks itself).
