How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is 500 mg (two injections) once a month. You will also get an extra 500 mg dose two weeks after your first dose.

Method

A doctor or nurse will give you slow injections into each of your buttock muscles.

Important

There is no specific maximum daily dose; this medicine is given once a month.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Reactions at the injection site, like pain or swelling
  • Abnormal liver enzyme levels (seen in blood tests)
  • Nausea
  • Weakness, tiredness
  • Joint and muscle pain
  • Hot flashes
  • Rash
  • Allergic reactions, including swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat
RARE
  • Headache
  • Vomiting, diarrhea, or loss of appetite
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Back pain
  • High bilirubin levels (a liver pigment)
  • Blood clots (increased risk)
  • Low platelet count
  • Vaginal bleeding
  • Lower back pain that spreads to one leg (sciatic nerve pain)
  • Sudden weakness, numbness, tingling, or problems moving a leg, especially on one side of the body; sudden walking or balance problems (peripheral neuropathy)
  • Thick, whitish vaginal discharge and yeast infection
  • Bruising and bleeding at the injection site
  • High gamma-GT levels (a liver enzyme seen in blood tests)
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis)
  • Liver failure
  • Numbness, tingling, and pain
  • Severe allergic reactions

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to fulvestrant or any other ingredient.
  • Do not use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Do not use if you have a severe liver disease.
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver or kidney problems.
  • Tell your doctor if you have low platelet counts (blood cells that help blood clot) or bleeding problems.
