How to Use

Dosage

You will receive 500 mg (two injections) once a month. An extra 500 mg dose is given two weeks after the first dose.

Method

A doctor or nurse will slowly inject the medicine into each buttock muscle.

Important

This medicine is not taken daily. The maximum dose given at one time is 500 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Reactions at the injection site, like pain or swelling.
  • Unusual liver enzyme levels (shown in blood tests).
  • Nausea (feeling sick).
  • Weakness, tiredness.
  • Joint and muscle pain.
  • Hot flushes.
  • Rash.
  • Allergic reactions, including swelling of the face, lips, tongue, and/or throat.
  • Headache.
  • Vomiting, diarrhea, or loss of appetite.
  • Urinary tract infections.
  • Back pain.
  • Increased bilirubin levels (a substance from the liver).
  • Blood clots (increased risk of blood clots).
  • Low blood platelet count.
  • Vaginal bleeding.
  • Lower back pain radiating down one leg (sciatica).
  • Sudden weakness, numbness, tingling, or difficulty moving a leg (especially on one side), or sudden problems with walking or balance (nerve damage).
RARE
  • Thick, whitish vaginal discharge and yeast infection.
  • Bruising and bleeding at the injection site.
  • Increased gamma-GT levels (a liver enzyme shown in blood tests).
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis).
  • Liver failure.
  • Numbness, tingling, and pain.
  • Severe allergic reactions (anaphylactic reactions).

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to fulvestrant or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Do not use if you have severe liver disease.
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver or kidney problems.
  • Tell your doctor if you have low blood platelets or bleeding disorders.
