How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is 500 mg (two 250 mg injections) once a month. You will also get an extra 500 mg dose two weeks after your first dose.

Method

A doctor or nurse will slowly inject this medicine into each of your buttock muscles.

Important

The maximum dose given at one time is 500 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Pain or swelling where the injection was given.
  • Abnormal liver test results.
  • Feeling sick (nausea).
  • Weakness, tiredness.
  • Joint or muscle pain.
  • Hot flushes.
  • Skin rash.
  • Allergic reactions, like swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat.
RARE
  • Headache.
  • Vomiting, diarrhea, or not wanting to eat.
  • Urinary tract infection.
  • Back pain.
  • High bilirubin levels (seen in blood tests).
  • Increased risk of blood clots.
  • Low number of blood platelets.
  • Vaginal bleeding.
  • Lower back pain that goes down one leg (sciatica).
  • Sudden weakness, numbness, tingling, or problems walking or balancing (nerve damage).
  • Thick, white vaginal discharge and yeast infection.
  • Severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis).
  • Bruising and bleeding at the injection site.
  • High gamma-GT levels (another abnormal liver test).
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis).
  • Liver failure.
  • Numbness, tingling, and pain.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to fulvestrant or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. If you can become pregnant, use effective birth control during treatment and for 2 years after your last dose.
  • Do not use if you have severe liver problems.
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver or kidney problems.
  • Tell your doctor if you have low blood platelet counts, bleeding disorders, or a history of blood clots.
