How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is one 2.5 mg tablet.

Method

Take the tablet whole with a large glass of water as soon as your migraine headache begins. You can take it with or without food.

Important

Do not take more than 5 mg (two tablets) in any 24-hour period.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Feeling sick (nausea), dry mouth, digestion problems, stomach pain
  • Feeling tired, uncomfortable feeling in the chest (like heaviness, pressure, or tightness)
  • Headache, dizziness, tingling in hands and feet, reduced sense of touch, extreme tiredness
  • Hot flashes
  • Feeling of tightness in the throat
  • Vision problems
  • Increased sweating
RARE
  • Changes in taste, trembling, trouble concentrating, drowsiness, increased sensitivity to touch, sleepiness, muscle twitching
  • Diarrhea, trouble swallowing, bloated stomach, stomach upset, gas
  • Fast heartbeat, racing heart, increased blood pressure, chest pain (intense pressure or tightness)
  • Feeling hot, less tolerance to hot and cold, pain, weakness, thirst, sluggishness, increased energy, general discomfort, dizziness
  • Anxiety, trouble sleeping, confusion, nervousness, restlessness, depression, personality changes, cold hands and feet
  • Runny nose, sinus infection, sore throat
  • Stiff muscles, muscle and bone pain, pain in legs and arms, joint pain, back pain, eye pain, eye irritation, sensitivity to light
  • Itching
  • Ringing in the ears, earache
  • Dehydration
  • Frequent urination, increased urine output
  • Muscle cramps, muscle weakness, weak reflexes, movement problems
  • Constipation, burping, heartburn, irritable bowel, mouth sores, lip pain, lip sores, throat spasms, stomach ulcer or ulcer in the upper small intestine, salivary gland pain, mouth inflammation, toothache
  • Fever
  • Memory loss, unusual dreams, personality disorders
  • Nosebleeds, faster breathing, hiccups, irritated throat

  • Increased bilirubin levels in blood (a substance from the liver), decreased calcium in blood, abnormal urine test results
  • Low blood sugar
  • Frequent nighttime urination, kidney pain
  • Self-inflicted injury (e.g., bites and bruises)
  • Swollen lymph nodes
  • Breast tenderness or discomfort

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to frovatriptan or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have heart problems like heart failure, chest pain, or have had a heart attack in the past.
  • Do not take if you have poor blood circulation in your legs that causes cramping pain when walking.
  • Do not take if you have had a stroke or a mini-stroke (TIA).
  • Do not take if you have severe liver disease.

  • Do not take with other migraine medicines that contain ergotamine, similar drugs like methysergide, or other triptans (e.g., sumatriptan). You must wait at least 24 hours between taking these medicines.
  • Stop taking the medicine and call your doctor right away if you get chest pain, shortness of breath, or pain in your arms, back, shoulders, neck, jaw, or upper stomach. These can be signs of a heart attack.
  • Stop taking the medicine and call your doctor right away if you get a widespread rash, itching, or sudden swelling (especially of the lips, eyes, or tongue) with trouble breathing. These can be signs of a severe allergic reaction.
