How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will start you on a low dose, usually 12.5 mg (half of a 25 mg tablet) once or twice a day, and slowly increase it. Always follow your doctor's instructions.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 900 mg, but your doctor will decide the right amount for you based on your condition.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Severe constipation
  • Fast heartbeat
  • Feeling sleepy or dizzy
  • More saliva than usual
  • Cold or flu-like symptoms, fever, sore throat, or other signs of infection
  • Seizures (fits)
  • Suddenly fainting or passing out with weak muscles
  • High white blood cell count (leukocytosis)
  • Weight gain
  • Blurred vision
  • Headache
  • Shakiness, stiffness, restlessness, muscle twitches, or difficulty moving
  • Changes in your heart's electrical activity (ECG) or high blood pressure
  • Feeling weak or unreal when changing positions
  • Feeling sick, throwing up, dry mouth, or not feeling like eating
  • Slightly abnormal liver test results
  • Difficulty controlling urine or problems urinating
  • Feeling tired, fever, or increased sweating
  • Speech problems (like slurred speech)
RARE
  • Sudden high fever and stiff muscles that can lead to passing out (a serious condition called neuroleptic malignant syndrome)
  • Feeling dizzy, lightheaded, or fainting when standing up quickly, which increases your risk of falling
  • Very low white blood cell count (agranulocytosis)
  • Stuttering
  • Low red blood cell count (anemia)
  • Feeling restless, agitated, or confused
  • Irregular heartbeat, inflammation of the heart muscle or lining, or fluid around the heart
  • High blood sugar or diabetes
  • Blood clots in the lungs (causing chest pain or breathing problems) or increased platelets, which can cause blood clots
  • Liver problems like inflammation, yellow skin/eyes, dark urine, or itching
  • Painful, long-lasting erection (priapism)
  • Easy bleeding or bruising (signs of low platelets)
  • Blocked nose
  • Bedwetting

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to clozapine or any other ingredients in it.
  • You must have regular blood tests, especially to check your white blood cell count. If you cannot, do not take this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have a history of low white blood cell count caused by medicines (unless it was due to cancer treatment).
  • Do not take if you have stopped clozapine before due to serious side effects like severe heart problems or very low white blood cells.
  • Do not take if you have seizures (epilepsy) that are not under control.

  • Contact your doctor immediately if you have a sudden high fever, stiff muscles, or become unconscious.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you have flu-like symptoms, fever, sore throat, or other signs of infection, as you will need a blood test right away.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you have a fast or irregular heartbeat, shortness of breath, chest pain, or unusual tiredness.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you have severe constipation, as this needs medical care to prevent other problems.
