Fotil and Fotil forte eye drops contain timolol and pilocarpine, which work by different mechanisms to lower eye pressure, and are used to treat glaucoma and/or high eye pressure when combination therapy is suitable.

How to Use

Dosage

One drop twice a day in the affected eye.

Method

Instill one drop into the eye. Keep the eye closed and press the inner corner of the eye against the bridge of the nose for 3-5 minutes to prevent the medicine from spreading to other parts of the body.

Important

Two drops per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Temporary stinging or burning in the eye
  • Redness of the eye's conjunctiva
  • Eye pain, itching, or irritation
  • Blurred vision
  • Increased tear production
  • Nearsightedness
  • Decreased visual acuity in poor light
  • Eye muscle spasms or trouble focusing (accommodation disorders)
RARE
  • Decreased sensitivity of the cornea or superficial inflammation of the cornea
  • Slow heart rate or low blood pressure
  • Shortness of breath
  • Nausea
  • Depression or fatigue
  • Dry eyes or inflammation of the eyelid or conjunctiva
  • Vision disturbances or double vision
  • Drooping eyelid (partially closed eye)
  • Retinal detachment, vitreous hemorrhage, or stiffening of the iris
  • Cyst formation or blood vessel widening in the iris
  • Eyelid contraction or narrowing of the anterior chamber of the eye
  • Reversible clouding of the eye lens
  • Bronchospasm (difficulty breathing), especially in patients with obstructive lung disease, asthma, or heart failure
  • Nasal congestion
  • Heart failure (with shortness of breath and swollen feet due to fluid buildup)
  • Irregular heart rhythm
  • Poor circulation in the outer parts of the body (cold hands and feet) or in the brain
  • Anxiety, dizziness, confusion, nightmares, or weakness
  • Vomiting or diarrhea
  • Increased salivation or sweating
  • Allergic reactions, including skin rash, hives, or hair loss
  • Swelling under the skin (face, arms, legs, airways), severe life-threatening allergic reaction, or itching
  • Low blood sugar
  • Insomnia, memory loss, or hallucinations
  • Fainting, stroke, worsening symptoms of myasthenia gravis, or unusual sensations like tingling
  • Corneal inflammation, detachment of the vascular layer under the retina after filtration surgery (may cause visual disturbances), or corneal damage
  • Chest pain, palpitations, edema (fluid retention), or heart attack
  • Raynaud's phenomenon (poor blood flow to fingers and toes)
  • Cough
  • Taste disturbance, indigestion, dry mouth, or abdominal pain
  • Silvery-white rash (psoriasis-like) or worsening psoriasis
  • Muscle pain not related to physical activity
  • Sexual dysfunction or decreased libido

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to timolol, pilocarpine, beta-blockers, or any other ingredient.
  • Do not use if you have certain heart conditions (such as irregular or slow heartbeat, heart failure) or breathing problems (such as asthma or severe lung disease).
  • Do not use if you have acute iritis (inflammation of the iris) or an eye condition where pupillary constriction should be avoided.
  • Tell your doctor before anesthesia or sedation that you are using these eye drops, as they may affect other medicines.
  • Do not use this medicine during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless your doctor considers it absolutely necessary.

  • If you wear contact lenses, remove them before applying the drops and wait 15 minutes before putting them back in.
  • The medicine contains benzalkonium chloride, which can cause eye irritation; consult your doctor if you experience discomfort in your eye.
