How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will tell you your dose based on your diet and blood phosphate levels. Typically, it's 750 mg or 1000 mg three times a day with meals.

Method

Take Fosrenol with or right after a meal. Mix the powder from the sachet with 1-2 spoonfuls of soft food (like applesauce) and eat it right away (within 15 minutes). You don't need to drink any extra liquid.

Important

Your doctor will tell you your maximum daily dose, which is usually 2250 mg or 3000 mg, split across three meals.

  • Bowel blockage (severe bloating, stomach pain, swelling or cramps, severe constipation)
  • Dizziness or spinning sensation
  • Feeling tired or weak
  • Swollen hands and feet
  • Dry mouth
  • Hair loss
  • Weight loss
  • Changes in taste

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Fosrenol if you are allergic to lanthanum or any other ingredient, have too little phosphate in your blood, or have a blocked bowel.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had stomach or bowel cancer, inflammatory bowel disease (like Crohn's disease), stomach or bowel surgery, stomach or bowel ulcers, slow bowel movements, or liver or kidney problems.
  • Inform your doctor if you need an X-ray or endoscopy, as Fosrenol can affect the results.
  • Some medicines (like certain antibiotics or thyroid medicine) need to be taken at different times than Fosrenol; ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
