How to Use

Dosage

Initially, you will typically take one tablet with each meal, usually three times a day. Your doctor will adjust your dose based on your blood phosphate levels.

Method

Take Fosrenol with or immediately after food. Chew the tablets thoroughly; do not swallow them whole. You can crush the tablets if chewing is difficult. You do not need liquid with them.

Your doctor will determine the maximum daily dose for you based on your blood phosphate levels.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Fosrenol if you are allergic to lanthanum carbonate hydrate or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take Fosrenol if you have too little phosphate in your blood (hypophosphatemia).
  • Do not take Fosrenol if you have a bowel obstruction.
  • Chew the tablets thoroughly; do not swallow them whole or poorly chewed, to avoid serious digestive issues like bowel rupture, obstruction, or severe constipation.
  • Some medicines, like chloroquine, ketoconazole, tetracycline, doxycycline, and levothyroxine, should not be taken within two hours before or after taking Fosrenol.

  • Oral floxacin antibiotics (including ciprofloxacin) should not be taken two hours before or four hours after taking Fosrenol.
  • Do not use Fosrenol if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Consult your doctor if you are planning to become pregnant.
  • Fosrenol can cause dizziness or spinning sensations, which may affect your ability to drive or use machines. Be cautious if you experience these symptoms.
  • Always tell your doctor if you have a history of stomach or bowel cancer, inflammatory bowel disease (like ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease), stomach or bowel surgery, ulcers, bowel obstruction, slow bowel movement (e.g., due to diabetes), or liver/kidney problems.
