How to Use

Dosage

Usually, you start with one tablet with each meal, three times a day. Your doctor will adjust your dose based on your blood phosphate levels.

Method

Take Fosrenol with or right after food. Chew the tablets completely; do not swallow them whole. You can crush them to make chewing easier.

  • Low calcium in blood (hypocalcemia) with symptoms like tingling in hands/feet, muscle or stomach cramps, and spasms in face/foot muscles
RARE
  • Severe abdominal pain with chills, fever, nausea, vomiting, or a tender abdomen (signs of bowel wall perforation - seek medical help immediately)
  • Severe bloating, abdominal pain, swelling, cramps, or very bad constipation (signs of bowel blockage - seek medical help immediately)
  • Fatigue
  • Feeling unwell
  • Chest pain
  • Weakness
  • Swelling of hands and feet
  • Body aches
  • Dizziness or spinning sensation (vertigo)
  • Belching
  • Stomach or bowel inflammation (gastroenteritis)
  • Indigestion

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Fosrenol if you are allergic to lanthanum carbonate hydrate or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take Fosrenol if you have too little phosphate in your blood (hypophosphatemia).
  • Do not take Fosrenol if you have a bowel blockage.
  • Always chew the tablets thoroughly. Do not swallow them whole, as this can increase the risk of stomach and bowel problems.
  • Do not use Fosrenol if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
