How to Use

Dosage

For asthma, typically 1-2 puffs twice daily or 1 puff in the morning and 1 in the evening; for COPD, 2 puffs in the morning and 2 in the evening.

Method

Inhale the medicine through your mouth. For asthma, it can be used daily and for sudden symptoms (up to 6 extra puffs if needed). Rinse your mouth with water after each use.

Important

For asthma, a maximum of 4 puffs daily (if using a separate rescue inhaler) or up to 8 puffs daily (if Fortibec is your only asthma inhaler, including for symptoms). For COPD, a maximum of 4 puffs daily.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Fungal infections in the mouth and throat
  • Headache
  • Hoarseness
  • Sore throat
  • Pneumonia (fever, chills, cough, changes in mucus, shortness of breath) in COPD patients
RARE
  • Palpitations (feeling your heart beat)
  • Unusually fast or irregular heartbeat, changes in heart's electrical activity (ECG)
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Vaginal fungal infections
  • Sinus infection
  • Runny nose
  • Ear infection
  • Throat irritation
  • Cough with mucus
  • Asthma attack
  • Nausea
  • Altered or lost sense of taste
  • Burning sensation on lips, dry mouth
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Indigestion
  • Stomach upset
  • Diarrhea
  • Muscle pain and cramps
  • Facial redness
  • Increased blood flow in some body tissues
  • Excessive sweating
  • Tremor
  • Restlessness
  • Dizziness
  • Hives or rash
  • Changes in blood composition: decreased white blood cells, increased platelets, decreased potassium, increased blood sugar, increased insulin, free fatty acids, and ketones
  • Decreased cortisol in blood (in COPD patients)
  • Heart rhythm problems (in COPD patients)
  • Tightness in the chest, feeling of skipped heartbeats
  • Increase or decrease in blood pressure
  • Kidney inflammation
  • Swelling of skin and mucous membranes lasting several days
  • Shortness of breath, worsening asthma
  • Decreased platelets
  • Swollen hands and feet
  • Blurred vision
  • Adrenal gland problems (very rare with long-term high doses)
  • Bone density loss (very rare with long-term high doses)
  • Slowed growth in children and adolescents (very rare with long-term high doses)
  • Increased eye pressure (glaucoma) (very rare with long-term high doses)
  • Cataracts (very rare with long-term high doses)
  • Sleep problems (frequency unknown)
  • Depression or anxiety (frequency unknown)
  • Nervousness, agitation, or irritability (frequency unknown)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Fortibec if you are allergic to any of its ingredients.
  • If your breathing gets worse or you start wheezing right after using the medicine, stop using Fortibec and get medical help immediately. Use your fast-acting rescue inhaler.
  • Tell your doctor if you have heart problems, diabetes, an overactive thyroid, liver or kidney disease, or if you have had tuberculosis or lung infections.
  • Do not use Fortibec if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, unless specifically told to by your doctor.
  • This medicine is not recommended for children or adolescents under 18 years of age.
