Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Stomach problems like feeling sick (nausea), throwing up (vomiting), diarrhea, stomach ache, and loss of appetite. These usually happen when you first start treatment and get better when you take Forminet with or after meals.
  • Changes in taste.
  • Low vitamin B12 levels in the blood, which can cause extreme tiredness, a sore red tongue, tingling sensations, or pale/yellowish skin.
RARE
  • Abnormal liver function tests or liver inflammation (hepatitis). This can cause tiredness, loss of appetite, weight loss, and yellowing of the skin or eyes. If you get these symptoms, stop taking Forminet and contact your doctor.
  • Skin reactions like redness, itching, or hives (itchy rash).

Important Warnings

  • Forminet can cause a very rare but serious side effect called lactic acidosis, especially if your kidneys are not working well. If you get symptoms like vomiting, stomach pain, muscle cramps, feeling very tired, difficulty breathing, a drop in body temperature, or a slow heartbeat, stop taking Forminet immediately and contact your doctor or the nearest hospital. Lactic acidosis is a medical emergency.
  • Stop taking Forminet temporarily if you have conditions that can cause dehydration, such as severe vomiting, diarrhea, fever, being exposed to heat, or drinking less than usual. Ask your doctor for advice.
  • You must stop taking Forminet for a certain period before and after medical procedures like X-rays with contrast or major surgery. Your doctor will tell you exactly when to stop and restart.
  • Avoid drinking too much alcohol while taking Forminet, as it can increase the risk of lactic acidosis.
  • Forminet alone usually doesn't cause low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). However, if you take Forminet with other diabetes medicines that can cause low blood sugar, you are at risk. Symptoms include weakness, dizziness, increased sweating, fast heartbeat, vision problems, or difficulty concentrating.
