How to Use

Dosage

Adults usually start with 50 mg or 100 mg once daily. For children aged 8 and older with OCD, the starting dose is usually 25 mg once daily.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with water. Do not chew them. Tablets can be divided into equal halves if needed. Take the medication in the evening, preferably at bedtime.

Important

The maximum daily dose for adults is 300 mg. For children, the maximum daily dose is 200 mg.

  • Joint or muscle pain

  • Feeling overly happy or excited (mania)
  • Increased sensitivity to sunlight
  • Unexpected milk production from breasts
  • Taste changes
  • Difficulty reaching orgasm
  • Menstrual problems in female patients
  • Heavy vaginal bleeding after childbirth
  • Problems with urinating, such as needing to go often or having trouble holding your urine
  • Tingling or numbness
  • Increased eye pressure (glaucoma)
  • Dilated pupils
  • More of a hormone that helps with milk production
  • Weight changes
  • Increased risk of bone fractures
  • Hypomania (feeling overly happy or excited) in children/adolescents with OCD
  • Lack of energy (weakness) in children/adolescents with OCD
  • Hyperactivity in children/adolescents with OCD

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to fluvoxamine or any of its ingredients.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are taking MAO inhibitors (medicines for depression or anxiety) or linezolid (an antibiotic).
  • Do not use this medicine if you are taking tizanidine (a muscle relaxant).
  • Do not use this medicine if you are taking pimozide (a medicine for schizophrenia or other mental illnesses).
  • Do not take Fluvosol if you are pregnant, unless your doctor says it is absolutely necessary.

  • Talk to your doctor before breastfeeding, as fluvoxamine can pass into breast milk and affect the baby.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly, as it can cause withdrawal symptoms. Your doctor will help you reduce the dose gradually.
  • Do not drink alcohol while taking this medicine, as it can make you sleepy and unstable.
  • If you have thoughts of harming yourself or suicide, contact a doctor or go to a hospital immediately.
  • Stop taking Fluvosol and contact your doctor immediately if you develop a severe skin rash, blisters, or sores on your mouth, eyes, or genitals.
  • Children and adolescents under 18 years should not take this medicine for depression. It is only prescribed for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) in this age group.
