Flumazenil is used to fully or partly reverse the sedating effects of benzodiazepines, helping patients wake up after sedation or recover from an overdose.
The usual starting dose is 0.2 mg given into a vein over 15 seconds, and additional doses can be given if needed.
This medicine is given as an injection or infusion into a vein by a doctor or nurse.
For adults, the maximum dose is usually 1 mg (in anesthesia) or 2 mg (in intensive care); for children, it's up to 1 mg or 0.05 mg/kg, whichever is lower.
