How to Use

Dosage

The first dose is usually 0.2–0.3 mg, given into a vein over 15 seconds. If you are not awake enough, more doses of 0.1 mg can be given every minute.

Method

A doctor or nurse will give you this medicine directly into a vein, either as an injection or a longer infusion.

Important

The most you can get during one treatment is usually 2.0 mg, but your doctor will decide how much you need.

  • Feeling your heart beat fast
  • Red skin (flushing)
  • Low blood pressure when standing up
  • Temporary high blood pressure when you wake up

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to flumazenil or any other ingredients.
  • Do not use if you have been treated with certain strong sedatives for life-threatening problems (like swelling in your brain or severe seizures), or if you have symptoms of an overdose from both those sedatives and certain antidepressant medicines.
  • You will be watched closely after getting this medicine, because the sleepy effect of the sedatives might come back.
  • If you have used a lot of strong sedatives for a long time, fast injections of this medicine should be avoided. This is because it can cause withdrawal symptoms.
  • If you have epilepsy and have used strong sedatives for a long time, this medicine is usually not recommended, as it might cause seizures.

  • Be careful if you have a serious head injury or unstable pressure in your brain, as this medicine might increase brain pressure.
  • This medicine is not suggested if you are dependent on sedatives, alcohol, or other medicines, or if you have had panic attacks before.
  • If your liver isn't working well, this medicine might stay in your body longer.
  • Do not drive or use any dangerous machines for at least 24 hours after your treatment, because the sleepy effects might return.
  • If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to get pregnant, talk to your doctor. Do not breastfeed for 24 hours after getting this medicine.
