How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor or nurse will decide your specific dose, which can vary from 50 mg to 800 mg daily, based on the type and severity of your infection and your age/weight.

Method

This medicine is given as a slow injection (infusion) into a vein by a doctor or nurse. It comes as a ready-to-use solution and is not diluted.

Important

The maximum daily dose for adults can be up to 800 mg. For children, the dose is based on their weight and determined by the doctor.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Stomach pain, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting
  • Increased liver enzyme levels (seen in blood tests)
  • Rash
RARE
  • Fewer red blood cells (causing pale skin, weakness, shortness of breath)
  • Decreased appetite
  • Trouble sleeping, drowsiness
  • Seizures, dizziness, spinning sensation (vertigo), tingling or numbness, changes in taste
  • Constipation, indigestion, gas, dry mouth
  • Muscle pain
  • Liver damage and yellowing of skin/eyes (jaundice)
  • Hives, blisters, itching, increased sweating
  • Tiredness, general feeling of being unwell, fever
  • Lower number of white blood cells (that fight infections) or blood cells (that help stop bleeding)
  • Red or purple skin discoloration (due to low platelet count or other blood cell changes)
  • Changes in blood chemistry (high cholesterol or fat levels)
  • Low potassium levels in the blood
  • Tremors
  • Abnormal heart rhythm or changes in heart rate (seen on ECG)
  • Liver failure
  • Allergic reactions (sometimes severe), including widespread blistering rash, peeling skin, severe skin reactions, and swelling of lips or face
  • Hair loss

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to fluconazole, other antifungal medicines, or any other ingredient in this medicine. Symptoms can include itching, red skin, or breathing problems.
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver or kidney problems.
  • Tell your doctor if you have heart problems, especially irregular heartbeats.
  • Tell your doctor if you have unusual levels of potassium, calcium, or magnesium in your blood.
  • Stop taking the medicine and see a doctor right away if you get a severe skin rash, blisters, or peeling skin.

  • Tell your doctor if you develop signs of adrenal insufficiency (e.g., long-lasting tiredness, muscle weakness, loss of appetite, weight loss, stomach pain).
  • Do not use with certain other medicines like astemizole, terfenadine, cisapride, pimozide, quinidine, or erythromycin. Tell your doctor about all medicines you are taking.
