How to Use

Dosage

Take one 150 mg capsule as a single dose.

Method

Swallow the capsule whole with a glass of water, with or without food.

Important

The maximum daily dose is one 150 mg capsule, taken as a single treatment.

  • Constipation, indigestion, gas, dry mouth
  • Muscle pain
  • Liver damage and yellow skin/eyes (jaundice)
  • Hives, itching, increased sweating, tiredness, general unwell feeling, fever
  • Low white blood cells (which fight infection) and platelets (which help stop bleeding)
  • Red or purple skin discoloration (due to blood changes)
  • Low blood potassium
  • High blood cholesterol and fats
  • Shaking or tremors
  • Abnormal heart rhythm (ECG changes)
  • Liver failure
  • Severe allergic reactions (sometimes serious), including widespread blistering rash, peeling skin, swollen lips/face, hair loss
  • Hypersensitivity reaction with rash, fever, swollen glands, increased white blood cells (eosinophilia) and inflammation of internal organs (DRESS syndrome).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to fluconazole, similar medicines, or any other ingredient in this medicine. Symptoms can include itching, red skin, or trouble breathing.
  • Do not take if you are already using astemizole, terfenadine (for allergies), cisapride (for stomach issues), pimozide (for mental health), quinidine (for heart rhythm), or erythromycin (an antibiotic).
  • Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine if you are under 16 or over 50 years old, if this is your first time having a vaginal yeast infection, or if you have had more than two yeast infections in the last six months.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have unusual levels of potassium, calcium, or magnesium in your blood.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have heart disease (including irregular heartbeat), liver problems, or kidney problems.

  • Stop taking this medicine and get help from a doctor right away if you get a widespread rash, fever, swollen lymph nodes (DRESS syndrome), itching, very red skin, trouble breathing, blisters, or mouth sores.
  • Talk to your doctor if you or your partner have been exposed to a sexually transmitted disease, if you are unsure why you have symptoms, or if you have a fever, lower stomach pain, unusual vaginal bleeding, irritation, sores, blisters on your genitals, or pain when you pee.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have symptoms of adrenal gland problems, such as constant tiredness, weak muscles, loss of appetite, weight loss, or stomach pain.
  • Talk to your doctor if the fungal infection does not get better, as you might need a different type of medicine.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant, think you might be pregnant, or are trying to get pregnant, unless your doctor has specifically told you to. It can increase the risk of miscarriage and birth defects.
  • If you take repeated doses, do not breastfeed. For a single dose, breastfeeding can continue.
  • This medicine may cause dizziness or seizures, so be careful when driving or using machines.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Risk of QT prolongation. Reduce the dose in moderately severe renal impairment. Monitor liver values. Consider the numerous potential interactions, especially with warfarin. (updated 4.12.2023)
