How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your exact dose based on the type and seriousness of your infection.

Method

Swallow the capsule whole with a glass of water, ideally at the same time each day.

Important

The maximum daily dose for adults is usually 800 mg, and for children 400 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Stomach pain, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting
  • Rash
  • Changes in blood test results related to liver function
RARE
  • Decreased red blood cells, white blood cells, or platelets, which can lead to paleness, weakness, shortness of breath, increased infection risk, or bleeding.
  • Severe skin reactions, such as widespread blistering, peeling skin, or swelling of the face and lips.
  • Liver failure or severe liver damage, with symptoms like fatigue, loss of appetite, vomiting, and jaundice (yellowing of skin and eyes).
  • Seizures, tremors, dizziness, insomnia, drowsiness, tingling or numbness, and changes in taste.
  • Irregular heartbeat or abnormal EKG (heart electrical activity test).
  • Muscle pain, constipation, dry mouth, low potassium in blood, high cholesterol and fat levels in blood, increased sweating, and hair loss.

Important Warnings

  • Stop taking this medicine and see a doctor right away if you get a severe rash, widespread blistering, or swelling of your face or lips.
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver or kidney problems.
  • Tell your doctor if you have heart problems or an irregular heartbeat.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, unless your doctor has specifically advised you to.
  • Be careful when driving or using machines, as this medicine can cause dizziness or seizures.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C
