How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will tell you the correct dose for your specific infection.

Method

Swallow the capsule whole with a glass of water, preferably at the same time each day, with or without food.

Important

The maximum daily dose for adults can be up to 800 mg, but your doctor will decide the right dose for you.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Stomach pain, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting
  • Changes in liver blood tests
  • Rash
RARE
  • Anemia (pale skin, weakness, shortness of breath)
  • Seizures, dizziness, tingling or numbness
  • Liver damage, yellowing of skin/eyes (jaundice)
  • Severe allergic reactions (widespread rash, fever, swollen glands, trouble breathing, swelling of face/lips/tongue)
  • Severe skin reactions (blisters, peeling skin, mouth sores)
  • Changes in blood cells (e.g., fewer white blood cells, low platelets)
  • Irregular heartbeat or changes in ECG
  • Hair loss

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to fluconazole or any other ingredient in this medicine. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include itching, red skin, or trouble breathing.
  • Stop taking this medicine and see a doctor right away if you get severe skin reactions like a widespread rash, fever, swollen lymph nodes (DRESS syndrome), or a rash with blisters.
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver or kidney problems, heart problems (including irregular heartbeat), or abnormal levels of potassium, calcium, or magnesium in your blood.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding without consulting your doctor.
  • This medicine may cause dizziness or seizures, so be careful when driving or operating machinery.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Risk of QT prolongation. Reduce the dose in moderately severe renal impairment. Monitor liver values. Consider the numerous potential interactions, especially with warfarin. (updated 4.12.2023)
