How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 3–15 mg per day. Your doctor may slowly increase it up to 30 mg per day. The regular dose for long-term use is 5–20 mg per day.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with water. You can take them with or without food. At first, you might take your daily dose in 2-3 smaller portions. Later, you might take it once a day. Do not chew the tablets.

Important

The highest dose your doctor might prescribe is usually 30 mg per day, though sometimes a higher dose may be needed.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Trouble with movements (like shaking, stiffness, or restlessness, feeling unable to sit still).
  • Weight gain.
  • Dizziness, headache.
  • Blurry vision.
  • More saliva, feeling sick (nausea, vomiting, stomach upset), dry mouth, constipation, diarrhea.
  • Feeling tired or weak, having trouble sleeping.
RARE
  • Fast heartbeat, memory loss, breathing problems, trouble urinating.
  • More sweating, skin rash or itching, joint pain.
  • Changes in appetite, low blood pressure, flushing (redness in face/neck).
  • Sexual problems (erection issues, period changes, less sex drive), feeling down or confused.
  • Yellow skin or eyes (jaundice), liver problems, seizures.
  • Blood clots (in legs causing swelling, pain, redness, or in lungs causing chest pain, breathing difficulties).
  • Severe reactions like high fever with stiff muscles and confusion (Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome).
  • Uncontrolled mouth or tongue movements (Tardive Dyskinesia), or changes in heart rhythm.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Fluanxol if you are allergic to flupentixol or any other ingredients in the medicine.
  • Do not take if your awareness level is low (you are very sleepy or confused).
  • Do not use if you have severe depression, especially if you need hospital care.
  • Talk to your doctor before taking Fluanxol if you have liver disease, a history of seizures, diabetes, heart problems, or blood clots in your family.
  • Do not drink alcohol while taking Fluanxol, as it can make you feel more drowsy and slow.

  • Fluanxol can make you sleepy or dizzy. Do not drive or use machines until you know how it affects you and these feelings pass.
  • Do not use Fluanxol if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, unless your doctor says it's absolutely necessary.
  • Fluanxol is not recommended for children or teenagers.
  • If you have a sugar intolerance (lactose) or are allergic to the coloring agent E110 (sunset yellow), talk to your doctor.
