How to Use

Dosage

For adults and teens over 16: take 100-1000 micrograms twice a day. For children 4-16: take 50-200 micrograms twice a day.

Method

Breathe the medicine in using the Diskus device. Rinse your mouth with water right after each use.

Important

Do not take more than 2000 micrograms in a day for adults and teens over 16, or more than 400 micrograms in a day for children 4-16.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Thrush in your mouth or throat.
  • Hoarse voice.
  • Easy bruising.
RARE
  • Allergic reactions on your skin.
  • Thrush in your food pipe (esophagus).
  • Cushing's syndrome and related problems (e.g., swelling in body and face, weak muscles, bone loss, high blood pressure, mental problems), adrenal gland issues, slow growth in children, weak bones, cataracts, glaucoma.
  • High blood sugar.
  • Feeling worried, trouble sleeping, behavior changes like being very active or easily annoyed (mainly in children).
  • Wheezing right after taking the medicine (paradoxical bronchospasm).
  • Feeling sad or acting aggressively (especially in children).
  • Nosebleeds.
  • Blurry vision.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to fluticasone propionate, lactose, or milk protein.
  • Tell your doctor if you have any lung infections, like tuberculosis, fungal, or viral infections.
  • Tell your doctor if you have used steroid pills before. Follow their instructions when switching to this medicine.
  • Stop using and call your doctor right away if you get more wheezing right after taking the medicine (this is called paradoxical bronchospasm).
  • Tell your doctor if you have diabetes.

  • Do not change your dose if your asthma gets worse; contact your doctor.
  • Contact your doctor if you use your quick-relief asthma medicine more often or if it stops working well.
  • Contact your doctor if your vision blurs or you have other eye problems like cataracts or glaucoma.
  • Do not stop using this medicine suddenly, as your symptoms may get worse. Talk to your doctor if you want to stop.
