How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is one 200 mg prolonged-release capsule once a day, but sometimes one 100 mg prolonged-release capsule per day is enough.

Method

Swallow the capsules whole with liquid. Flecainide Orion prolonged-release capsules can be taken with or without food.

Important

The maximum daily dose is two 200 mg prolonged-release capsules per day (400 mg/day).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to flecainide or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have severe heart circulatory failure with very low blood pressure or a slow heart rate.
  • Do not take if you have Brugada syndrome (a hereditary condition predisposing to severe arrhythmias).
  • Do not take if you have heart failure.
  • Do not take if you have heart conduction disorders, such as sick sinus syndrome or atrioventricular block.

  • Do not take if you have had extra heartbeats after a heart attack, such as ventricular premature beats or ventricular tachycardia.
  • Do not take if you have long-lasting atrial fibrillation that has not been converted to a normal rhythm.
  • Do not take if you have severe heart valve disease.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have structural heart disease.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have had heart surgery and experienced atrial fibrillation afterwards.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have kidney or liver impairment.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have abnormal sodium or potassium levels in your blood.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have a pacemaker.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. Start the treatment only in specialized care. Risk of QT prolongation. Reduce the dose in severe renal impairment. A significant adverse effect is torsades de pointes ventricular tachycardia. Consider the numerous potential interactions. (updated 19.5.2025)
