How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will determine your dose individually based on your weight and body functions, typically 20-40 ml per kg of body weight per day.

Method

It is given through a tube (catheter) directly into a vein.

Important

The maximum recommended daily dose is 40 ml per kg of body weight.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to fish, egg, soy, peanut protein, or corn products.
  • Do not use if you have high levels of fats or too much sugar in your blood.
  • Tell your doctor if you have severe liver, kidney, or heart problems, or lung disease.
  • Tell your doctor if you have problems with your blood clotting.
  • Tell your doctor if your body cannot process amino acids, or if you have very high electrolyte levels or very acidic blood.

  • Tell your doctor if you have problems with fluid buildup or dehydration.
  • Do not use if you have a severe injury, untreated diabetes, heart attack, stroke, blood clot, severe infection (sepsis), or loss of consciousness.
  • Stop the infusion right away and tell your doctor if you get fever, chills, rash, or trouble breathing.
  • Tell your doctor if you feel pain, burning, stiffness, swelling, or skin color changes at the infusion site.
  • There is a risk of infection when a tube is placed in your vein; your doctor will watch for signs of infection.
  • Your body may have trouble processing fats, leading to a condition called fat overload syndrome.
  • If you are severely malnourished, your doctor will start this nutrition slowly and carefully.
