How to Use

Dosage

One 0.5 mg capsule once a day.

Method

Swallow the capsule whole with water, do not open it. You can take it with or without food.

Important

Do not take more than the recommended dose.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Flu-like symptoms (tiredness, chills, sore throat, joint/muscle pain, fever)
  • Sinus pain or pressure
  • Headache
  • Diarrhea
  • Back pain
  • Increased liver enzymes (shown in blood tests)
  • Cough
  • Herpes infection (shingles), with blisters, burning, itching, or pain on skin
  • Slow or irregular heartbeat
  • Skin cancer (basal cell carcinoma), often appearing as pearly bumps
  • Depression or anxiety
  • Weight loss
  • Fungal skin infection (tinea versicolor)
  • Dizziness
  • Severe headache often with nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light (migraine)
  • Low white blood cell count (lymphocytes, leukocytes)
  • Feeling of weakness
  • Itchy, red, burning rash (eczema)
  • Itching
  • Increased blood fat levels (triglycerides)
  • Hair loss
  • Shortness of breath
  • Blurred vision
  • High blood pressure
  • Muscle pain
  • Joint pain
RARE
  • Pneumonia, with symptoms like fever, cough, difficulty breathing
  • Macular edema (swelling in the back of the eye) causing blurry vision, shadows, or blind spots
  • Low platelet count, increasing risk of bleeding or bruising
  • Melanoma (skin cancer), often from changes in an existing mole or new moles
  • Seizures (convulsions), more common in children and teenagers
  • Posterior Reversible Encephalopathy Syndrome (PRES), with sudden severe headache, confusion, seizures, and/or vision changes
  • Lymphoma (cancer of the lymph system)
  • Squamous cell carcinoma (skin cancer), appearing as a firm, red lump, crusty sore, or new wound on an old scar
  • Abnormal ECG (T-wave inversion)
  • Tumor linked to human herpesvirus 8 infection (Kaposi's sarcoma)
  • Allergic reactions, including rash, itchy hives, swelling of lips, tongue, or face
  • Signs of liver disease (including liver failure), such as yellow skin/eyes (jaundice), nausea/vomiting, right-sided abdominal pain, dark urine, poor appetite, tiredness, and abnormal liver tests
  • Risk of a rare brain infection called Progressive Multifocal Leukoencephalopathy (PML)
  • Cryptococcal infections (fungal infections), including cryptococcal meningitis, with symptoms like headache, stiff neck, light sensitivity, nausea, and/or confusion
  • Merkel cell carcinoma (a type of skin cancer), appearing as a skin-colored or purplish, painless lump, often on the face, head, or neck
  • Autoimmune hemolytic anemia (a type of anemia where red blood cells are destroyed by the immune system)
  • Peripheral swelling

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if your immune system is weak due to illness or medication.
  • Do not take if you have a severe active or chronic infection, such as hepatitis or tuberculosis.
  • Do not take if you have active cancer.
  • Do not take if you have severe liver disease.
  • Do not take if you have had a heart attack, chest pain, stroke, or certain types of heart failure in the past 6 months.

  • Do not take if you have certain types of irregular heartbeat or if your ECG shows problems before starting treatment.
  • Do not take if you are currently taking or have recently taken medicines for irregular heartbeats (such as quinidine, disopyramide, amiodarone, or sotalol).
  • Do not take if you are pregnant or could become pregnant and are not using effective birth control.
  • Do not take if you are allergic to fingolimod or any other ingredients in this medicine.
