How to Use

Dosage

Adults: One 0.5 mg capsule once a day. Children and adolescents (10 years and older): One 0.25 mg capsule once a day for those weighing 40 kg or less, or one 0.5 mg capsule once a day for those weighing over 40 kg.

Method

Take Fingolimod Devatis by mouth once a day with a glass of water. Swallow the capsules whole; do not open them. You can take it with or without food. Taking it at the same time each day helps you remember.

Important

Do not exceed the recommended dose, which is one 0.5 mg capsule per day for adults and children over 40 kg, or one 0.25 mg capsule per day for children 40 kg or less.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Cough with mucus, chest discomfort, fever (signs of lung problems)
  • Herpes virus infection (shingles), with blisters, burning, itching, or pain on the skin
  • Slow heartbeat (bradycardia), irregular heartbeat
  • Basal cell skin cancer (often appearing as pearl-like bumps)
  • Depression and anxiety
  • Weight loss
  • Flu-like infection (tiredness, chills, sore throat, muscle aches, fever)
  • Sinus infection (pressure or pain in cheeks and forehead)
  • Headache
  • Diarrhea
  • Back pain
  • Increased liver enzyme levels in blood tests
  • Cough
  • Ringworm, a fungal skin infection
  • Dizziness
  • Severe headache often with nausea, vomiting, and light sensitivity (migraine)
  • Low white blood cell count (lymphocytes, leukocytes)
  • Feeling of weakness
  • Itchy, red, burning rash (eczema)
  • Itching
  • Increased blood fat levels (triglycerides)
  • Hair loss
  • Shortness of breath
  • Blurred vision (macular edema)
  • High blood pressure
  • Muscle pain
  • Joint pain
RARE
  • Pneumonia, with symptoms like fever, cough, breathing difficulties
  • Macular edema (swelling at the back of the eye) with symptoms like shadows or blind spots in central vision, blurred vision, difficulty distinguishing colors or details
  • Low platelet count, increasing the risk of bleeding or bruising
  • Malignant melanoma (a type of skin cancer, often starting from an unusual mole). Signs include moles changing size, shape, height, or color, or new moles that may itch, bleed, or ulcerate.
  • Seizures (more common in children and adolescents than in adults)
  • Low levels of certain white blood cells (neutrophils)
  • Depressed mood
  • Nausea
  • Posterior Reversible Encephalopathy Syndrome (PRES), with sudden severe headache, confusion, seizures, and/or vision problems
  • Lymphoma (a type of cancer affecting the lymph system)
  • Squamous cell carcinoma (a type of skin cancer that may appear as a firm, red lump, a scaly sore, or a new sore on an old scar)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you have a weakened immune system, a severe active infection, or an active chronic infection like hepatitis or tuberculosis.
  • Do not take if you have had a heart attack, chest pain, stroke, or certain types of heart failure in the last 6 months, or if you have an irregular heartbeat.
  • Do not take if you have severe liver disease or active cancer.
  • Do not use if you are pregnant or could become pregnant and are not using effective birth control. Talk to your doctor immediately if you become pregnant.
  • Do not take if your doctor suspects you have a rare brain infection called PML or if PML is confirmed.

  • If you have never had chickenpox, your doctor may check your immunity and vaccinate you before starting treatment.
  • Limit your sun exposure and use sunscreen, as this medicine can increase your risk of skin cancer.
