How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is one 10 mg tablet once a day. Your doctor may start you on a 5 mg dose if you have liver problems.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with half a glass of water. You can take it with or without food, at any time of day, but try to take it at the same time daily to help you remember.

Important

The maximum recommended daily dose is one 10 mg tablet.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Symptoms include fever or chills, burning sensation when urinating, or pain in your back or side.
  • Symptoms include shaking, sweating, strong anxiety, rapid heartbeat, feeling hungry, headache, changes in vision, mood changes, or confusion.
  • Yeast infection in the penis or vagina, which can cause irritation, itching, or unusual discharge/smell.
  • Back pain.
  • Increased amount of urine or needing to urinate more often.
  • Changes in cholesterol or fat levels (found in lab tests).
  • Increase in red blood cells in the blood (found in lab tests).
  • Reduced kidney function (creatinine clearance, seen in lab tests) at the start of treatment.
  • Feeling dizzy.
  • Skin rash.
RARE
  • Too much fluid loss from your body (dehydration), with symptoms like a very dry or sticky mouth, little or no urine, or a fast heartbeat.
  • Feeling thirsty.
  • Difficulty passing stools.
  • Needing to wake up at night to urinate.
  • Feeling of dryness in the mouth.
  • Losing weight.
  • Increased levels of creatinine or urea in the blood (found in lab tests) at the start of treatment.
  • Swelling of your face, tongue, or throat, difficulty swallowing, hives, or trouble breathing.
  • Elevated ketone levels in urine or blood, nausea or vomiting, stomach pain, intense thirst, fast or deep breathing, confusion, unusual sleepiness or tiredness, sweet-smelling breath, sweet or metallic taste in mouth, change in urine or sweat smell, rapid weight loss.
  • Severe soft tissue infection in the genital or anal area, which causes pain, tenderness, redness, or swelling, often with fever or a general feeling of being unwell.
  • Inflammation of the kidneys (tubulointerstitial nephritis).

Important Warnings

  • If you have diabetes and experience severe nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, extreme thirst, confusion, unusual sleepiness, sweet-smelling breath, or rapid weight loss, contact a doctor immediately. These could be signs of a serious condition called diabetic ketoacidosis. Do not take this medicine if you suspect this.
  • Seek immediate medical attention if you experience pain, tenderness, redness, or swelling in your genital or anal area, especially with fever or feeling generally unwell. These could be signs of a rare but serious infection called Fournier's gangrene.
  • Do not take Figozap if you are allergic to dapagliflozin or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Figozap is not for people with type 1 diabetes.
  • If you have very high blood sugar, feel sick, vomit, have a fever, or cannot eat or drink, you might become dehydrated. Tell your doctor, as they may ask you to stop Figozap until you feel better.
