How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose based on blood tests.

Method

This medicine is given as an injection or infusion directly into a vein.

Important

The maximum dose is 1000 mg of iron per administration; it is usually given no more than once a week.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Feeling hot or flushing
  • High blood pressure
  • Nausea
  • Reactions at the injection or infusion site (like pain or swelling)
RARE
  • Numbness, tingling, or a pricking feeling on the skin
  • Changes in taste
  • Fast or slow heartbeat
  • Low blood pressure
  • Difficulty breathing or wheezing
  • Vomiting, indigestion, stomach pain, constipation, or diarrhea
  • Itching, hives, skin redness, or rash
  • Muscle, joint, or back pain, including pain in arms or legs, and muscle cramps
  • Fever, tiredness, chest pain, chills, or general discomfort
  • Swelling of hands or feet
  • Vein inflammation
  • Anxiety, fainting, or feeling weak
  • Sudden swelling of the face, mouth, tongue, or throat, which can cause trouble breathing
  • Paleness or skin discoloration in areas other than the injection site
  • Flu-like symptoms such as fever and muscle and joint aches, appearing hours or days after the injection
  • Loss of consciousness

Important Warnings

  • Do not receive this medicine if you are allergic to iron(III) carboxymaltose or other similar injectable iron medicines.
  • Tell your doctor if you have anemia not caused by iron deficiency, too much iron in your body, or if you have severe asthma, eczema, liver problems, an infection, or low blood phosphate levels.
  • This medicine is not for children under 1 year old.
  • Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.
  • You will be monitored for at least 30 minutes after each dose because of the risk of allergic reactions.
