How to Use

Dosage

This medicine is given by a doctor or nurse as an injection into a vein (intravenously).

Your doctor or nurse will manage your dose and ensure you do not receive too much, as this medicine is given in a hospital setting.

Possible Side Effects

RARE
  • Chest pain or angina
  • Irregular heartbeat
  • Feeling your heart pound in your chest
  • Brain hemorrhage (symptoms like speech problems, dizziness, paralysis on one side of the body)
  • Psychosis (losing touch with reality)
  • Allergic reaction
  • Excessively wide pupils
  • Increased pressure in the eye (worsening of glaucoma)
  • Restlessness
  • Anxiety
  • Confusion
  • Headache
  • Nervousness
  • Insomnia (difficulty falling or staying asleep)
  • Tremor (shaking)
  • Burning sensation on the skin
  • Tingling or prickling sensation on the skin (paresthesia)
  • Slow or fast heartbeat
  • High blood pressure
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Fluid in the lungs
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Sweating
  • Pale skin or pallor
  • Goosebumps (hair standing on end)
  • Tissue damage at the injection site
  • Muscle weakness
  • Difficulty urinating or inability to urinate (urinary retention)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to phenylephrine or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have high blood pressure.
  • Do not use if you have severe problems with blood circulation in your arms or legs.
  • Do not use if you are taking certain medicines for depression (MAOIs) or have stopped them less than 2 weeks ago.
  • Do not use if you have a severe overactive thyroid gland.
