How to Use

Dosage

Each patch provides medicine for 3 days (72 hours).

Method

Change the patch every three days at the same time of day, always removing the old patch before applying a new one, unless your doctor tells you otherwise.

Important

Always follow your doctor's instructions for the dose; do not apply more than the prescribed number or strength of patches.

  • Itchy skin, rash, redness
  • Inability to urinate or empty bladder completely
  • Severe tiredness, weakness, or general feeling of being unwell
  • Feeling cold
  • Swelling of hands, ankles, or feet (peripheral edema)
RARE
  • Agitation or disorientation
  • Strong feeling of well-being (euphoria)
  • Reduced sense of touch or sensitivity, especially in the skin (hypesthesia)
  • Memory loss
  • Blurred vision
  • Slow heartbeat (bradycardia) or low blood pressure
  • Bluish skin due to low oxygen (cyanosis)
  • Lack of bowel movement (ileus)
  • Itchy rash (eczema), allergic reaction or other skin problem where the patch is applied
  • Flu-like illness
  • Changes in body temperature
  • Fever
  • Muscle twitching
  • Difficulty getting or keeping an erection (impotence) and sexual difficulties
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Constriction of eye pupils (miosis)
  • Temporary cessation of breathing (apnea)
  • Lack of male hormones (androgen deficiency)
  • Delirium (a state of confusion with symptoms like agitation, restlessness, disorientation, confusion, fears, hallucinations, sleep disturbances, nightmares)

Important Warnings

  • This medicine can be life-threatening for people who are not regularly using strong opioid pain medicines prescribed by a doctor.
  • Fentanyl Stada patches are dangerous for children, even used patches. Keep all patches, new or used, out of sight and reach of children to prevent accidental death.
  • Only use the patch on the person it was prescribed for. If a patch sticks to another person, especially a child, remove it immediately and contact a doctor, as it can cause severe breathing problems or even death.
  • The medicine can make you unusually sleepy and cause slow or shallow breathing, which can be life-threatening. If you or someone with you notices this, remove the patch, call a doctor or go to the nearest hospital right away, and try to keep the person awake.
  • Avoid exposing the patch to direct heat, such as heating pads, hot water bottles, electric blankets, sunbathing, hot baths, saunas, or hot tubs. This can cause too much medicine to be absorbed, leading to an overdose.

  • This medicine contains fentanyl, an opioid. Opioids can cause dependence and addiction. Repeated use can lead to misuse and overdose, which can be life-threatening.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as it can harm the baby. If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, or if you are breastfeeding, talk to your doctor before using this medicine.
  • This medicine can make you feel drowsy or dizzy. If you experience these effects, do not drive or operate any tools or machinery.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. Sedative. Serotonergic. Intended for the treatment of cancer pain. Not suitable for initiating opioid medication. Low transdermal efficacy in cachectic patients. Increases the risk of confusion and falling. Need for laxative is often necessary. Consider potential significant interactions. (updated 24.3.2025)
