Change the patch every 3 days (72 hours) at the same time of day, always removing the old one before applying a new one. Ensure skin is dry, clean, and cool before applying. Important Warnings

  • Fentanyl Sandoz can cause life-threatening side effects, especially in people who do not regularly use strong opioid pain medicines. It can be deadly for children; even used patches are dangerous. Keep all patches out of sight and reach of children.
  • Do not use if you are allergic to fentanyl or any other ingredients, have short-term pain (like after surgery), or severe breathing difficulties (e.g., slow or shallow breathing).
  • The patch should only be applied to the person it was prescribed for. If a patch sticks to another person's skin, especially a child's, remove it immediately and contact a doctor.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have lung, heart, liver, kidney, or brain problems, low blood pressure, or if you are elderly, as you may need closer monitoring.
  • Tell your doctor if you notice sleep-related breathing problems (like pauses in breathing during sleep) or any changes in your pain while using the patch.

  • Fentanyl Sandoz may cause unusual drowsiness and slow or shallow breathing. If this happens, remove the patch, call a doctor immediately, and make sure the person is moving and talking as much as possible.
  • If you get a fever while using the patch, tell your doctor, because fever can increase the amount of medicine absorbed through your skin.
  • This medicine can cause constipation; ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice on how to prevent or treat it.
  • Do not expose the patch to direct heat, such as heating pads, hot water bottles, sunlight, or hot baths/saunas, as this can increase the amount of medicine absorbed.
  • This medicine can cause dependence and addiction. Do not use for longer or in higher doses than prescribed by your doctor, and if you notice signs of dependence (e.g., using more than prescribed, using for other purposes, withdrawal symptoms when stopping), talk to your doctor.
  • Do not stop using this medicine abruptly. Talk to your doctor first about gradually reducing the dose to avoid withdrawal symptoms.
  • Avoid alcohol while using this medicine, unless your doctor has specifically told you it's okay.
