How to Use

Dosage

Each patch contains enough medicine for 3 days (72 hours).

Method

Apply the patch to a clean, dry, and cool, flat area of skin on your upper body or arm, avoiding joints, irritated skin, or very hairy areas. For children, always apply to the upper back to prevent removal.

Important

Change the patch every three days (72 hours) at the same time of day, unless your doctor advises otherwise.

  • Spinning sensation (vertigo)
  • Fast or irregular heartbeat (palpitations, tachycardia)
  • High blood pressure
  • Shortness of breath (dyspnea)
  • Diarrhea
  • Dry mouth
  • Stomach pain and indigestion
  • Heavy sweating
  • Itching, skin rash and redness
  • Inability to urinate or empty the bladder completely
  • Feeling very tired, weak, or generally unwell
  • Feeling cold
  • Swelling of hands, ankles, or feet (peripheral edema)
RARE
  • Agitation or disorientation (losing sense of time or place)
  • Strong feeling of well-being (euphoria)
  • Decreased sensation or sensitivity, especially in the skin (hypoesthesia)
  • Memory loss
  • Blurred vision
  • Slow heartbeat (bradycardia) or low blood pressure
  • Bluish skin due to low oxygen levels in the blood (cyanosis)
  • Lack of bowel movements (ileus)
  • Itchy rash (eczema), allergic reaction, or other skin disorder at the patch application site
  • Flu-like illness
  • Feeling of changed body temperature
  • Fever
  • Muscle twitching
  • Difficulty getting and maintaining an erection (impotence) and problems with sexual intercourse
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Constriction of pupils (miosis)
  • Temporary cessation of breathing (apnea)
  • Seizures (convulsions)
  • Decreased consciousness or loss of consciousness
  • Unusual drowsiness and slow or shallow breathing

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to fentanyl or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use for short-term pain, such as sudden pain or pain after surgery.
  • Do not use if you have breathing difficulties, such as slow or shallow breathing.
  • Fentanyl Sandoz patches can cause life-threatening side effects in people who do not regularly use prescribed opioid medications.
  • Fentanyl Sandoz is a medicine that can be life-threatening for children. This also applies to used patches, as they may still contain medicine.

  • Keep this medicine in a safe and secure place where others, especially children, cannot access it.
  • If a patch sticks to another person's skin, remove it immediately and contact a doctor.
  • If you or your partner notice unusual drowsiness or slow, shallow breathing in the patch user, remove the patch and call a doctor or go to the nearest hospital immediately.
  • Do not expose the patch to direct heat (like heat pads, hot water bottles, sunbathing, hot baths, saunas, hot tubs) as this can increase the amount of medicine released from the patch.
  • Do not drink alcohol while using Fentanyl Sandoz patches unless you have first discussed it with your doctor.
  • Fentanyl Sandoz can affect your ability to drive or use machines due to drowsiness or dizziness. Do not drive or use machines if you experience these effects.
  • This medicine contains fentanyl, which is an opioid. It can cause dependence and/or addiction.
  • Fentanyl Sandoz patches should not be used during pregnancy unless you have discussed it with your doctor.
  • Do not use Fentanyl Sandoz patches if you are breastfeeding. Do not breastfeed for three days after removing the patch, as the medicine may pass into breast milk.
  • Do not stop using this medicine suddenly.
