Each patch has enough medicine for 3 days (72 hours). Your doctor will tell you the right dose.

Method

For adults, apply the patch to a flat area on your upper body or arm, not over a joint. For children, always apply to the upper back so they cannot reach or remove it.

Important Warnings

  • Fentanyl ratiopharm patches can be dangerous and life-threatening for people who do not regularly use strong pain medicines (opioids) prescribed by a doctor.
  • This medicine can be very dangerous for children, even used patches. An unused or used patch can attract a child, and if it sticks to their skin or they put it in their mouth, it can be deadly.
  • Keep this medicine in a safe place, out of reach and sight of others, especially children.
  • If the patch accidentally sticks to another person, especially a child, remove it immediately and contact a doctor.
  • Fentanyl ratiopharm can cause unusual sleepiness and slow or shallow breathing. These breathing problems can be life-threatening, especially if you haven't used strong opioid pain medicines before. If you or someone caring for you notices unusual sleepiness or slow, shallow breathing, remove the patch immediately, call a doctor or go to the nearest hospital, and keep the person moving and talking as much as possible.

  • If you get a fever while using Fentanyl ratiopharm, tell your doctor, as fever can increase how much medicine your body absorbs.
  • When wearing the patch, do not expose it to direct heat, such as heating pads, hot water bottles, heated water beds, sunlamps, or tanning beds. Do not sunbathe, take long hot baths, sauna, or use hot tubs. These can increase the amount of medicine you get from the patch.
  • Do not cut the patches into smaller pieces, as their quality, effectiveness, and safety when cut have not been proven.
  • Do not drink alcohol while using Fentanyl ratiopharm unless you have discussed it with your doctor first.
  • Fentanyl ratiopharm should not be used during pregnancy, unless you have discussed it with your doctor. It should not be used during childbirth, as it can affect the newborn baby's breathing.
  • Do not breastfeed while using Fentanyl ratiopharm. You should not breastfeed for three days after removing your Fentanyl ratiopharm patch, as the medicine can pass into breast milk.
  • Fentanyl ratiopharm can make you sleepy or dizzy, which may affect your ability to drive or use machines. If you experience these effects, do not drive or use any tools or machines until you know how it affects you.
