How to Use

Dosage

The patch is changed every three days (72 hours), unless your doctor has given other instructions.

Method

Adults: Apply the patch to a flat area on your upper body or arm. Children: Apply the patch to the upper back so the child cannot reach it. Always remove the old patch before putting on a new one.

  • Spinning sensation (vertigo)
  • Fast or irregular heartbeat
  • High blood pressure
  • Shortness of breath
  • Diarrhea
  • Dry mouth
  • Stomach pain and digestion problems
  • Heavy sweating
  • Itching, rash, and skin redness
  • Difficulty urinating or inability to empty the bladder completely
  • Severe tiredness, weakness, or general feeling of illness
  • Feeling cold
  • Swelling of hands, ankles, or feet
RARE
  • Unusual drowsiness, slower or shallow breathing (can be life-threatening)
  • Seizures
  • Reduced consciousness or unconsciousness
  • Agitation or confusion
  • Strong feeling of euphoria (well-being)
  • Decreased skin sensation
  • Memory loss
  • Blurred vision
  • Slow heartbeat or low blood pressure
  • Bluish skin (due to low oxygen in blood)
  • Bowel obstruction (ileus)
  • Itchy rash (eczema) or allergic skin reaction at the application site
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Changes in body temperature
  • Fever
  • Muscle twitching
  • Erectile dysfunction or sexual problems
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Pupil constriction
  • Breathing pauses

Important Warnings

  • This medicine can be life-threatening if used incorrectly or if a child gets hold of it.
  • The patch must only be applied to the skin of the person it was prescribed for. If the patch sticks to another person, remove it immediately and contact a doctor.
  • Do not expose the patch to direct heat, and do not take hot baths or saunas, as this can increase the absorption of the medicine.
  • Do not cut the patch into smaller pieces.
  • Talk to your doctor before use if you have lung, heart, liver, or kidney disease, low blood pressure, a brain tumor, or if you are elderly.

  • Do not use during pregnancy or breastfeeding without talking to your doctor.
  • Do not drink alcohol while using this medicine.
  • Do not drive or use machines if you feel drowsy or dizzy.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. Sedative. Serotonergic. Intended for the treatment of cancer pain. Not suitable for initiating opioid medication. Low transdermal efficacy in cachectic patients. Increases the risk of confusion and falling. Need for laxative is often necessary. Consider potential significant interactions. (updated 24.3.2025)
