How to Use

Dosage

For adults, typically 4-12 ml (200-600 micrograms) just before surgery. Additional doses of 1-4 ml (50-200 micrograms) may be given every 30-45 minutes if needed.

Method

This medicine is given as a slow injection into a vein (over 1-2 minutes).

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Nausea, vomiting
  • Muscle stiffness
  • Involuntary movements, drowsiness, dizziness
  • Vision problems
  • Slow or fast heart rate, irregular heartbeat
  • Low or high blood pressure, pain in veins
  • Spasms in the voice box, shortness of breath due to muscle spasms, shallow or stopped breathing
  • Allergic skin rash
  • Confusion after surgery, nerve problems from anesthesia
RARE
  • Agitation, feeling happy (euphoria)
  • Headache
  • Surface vein inflammation, blood pressure changes
  • Increased breathing, hiccups
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Chills, low body temperature
  • Airway complications from anesthesia, agitation after surgery, complications from surgery
  • Severe allergic reaction (anaphylactic shock) with hives, sudden drop in blood pressure, pale skin, fast and weak pulse, clammy skin, and confusion
  • Serotonin syndrome (agitation, hallucinations, coma, fast heart rate, blood pressure changes, fever, stiff muscles, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea)
  • Delirium (agitation, restlessness, confusion, disorientation, fear, hallucinations, sleep problems, nightmares)
  • Seizures, loss of consciousness, sudden muscle jerks (myoclonus)
  • Cardiac arrest
  • Decreased breathing strength, depth, and rate
  • Itching
  • Withdrawal symptoms (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, anxiety, chills, tremors, sweating)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to fentanyl or other strong pain medicines (opioids).
  • Do not take if your lungs do not work well and you are not on a breathing machine.
  • Your breathing may become slower or weaker after getting this medicine. Tell your doctor right away if this happens.
  • Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine if you have liver, kidney, or thyroid problems, lung or breathing diseases, muscle diseases (like myasthenia gravis), or mental health conditions (like depression or anxiety).
  • Tell your doctor if you or someone in your family has ever misused alcohol or drugs, or if you smoke.

  • If you stop taking this medicine after using it for a while, you may have withdrawal symptoms like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, anxiety, chills, shaking, and sweating.
  • Tell your doctor about all other medicines you take, especially those for depression, as they can cause serious problems when taken with Fentanyl Kalceks.
  • Do not drive or operate machines for at least 24 hours after receiving this medicine, as it can make you less alert.
  • Do not drink alcohol before or the day after you receive this medicine, as it can enhance its effects.
  • If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, talk to your doctor before using this medicine.
