Femoston is a medicine containing estrogen and progestin, used to relieve menopause symptoms and prevent bone loss in women whose natural menstrual periods stopped at least 6 months ago.

How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will prescribe your dose. For Femoston 1/10: Take one white tablet for 14 days, then one grey tablet for the next 14 days. For Femoston 2/10: Take one brick-red tablet for 14 days, then one yellow tablet for the next 14 days.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water, with or without food. Try to take your tablet at the same time each day and without breaks between packs.

Important

Take one tablet once a day.

Possible Side Effects

  • Headache
  • Abdominal pain

  • Breast tenderness or pain
  • Vaginal yeast infection
  • Feeling depressed or nervous
  • Migraine
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea, vomiting, abdominal swelling, or gas
  • Allergic skin reactions (like rash, itching, or hives)
  • Bleeding problems (like irregular bleeding, spotting, or changes in periods)
  • Pelvic pain
  • Vaginal discharge
  • Weakness, tiredness, or feeling generally unwell
  • Swelling of the ankles, feet, or fingers
  • Weight gain
RARE
  • Symptoms similar to a bladder infection
  • Increased size of benign growths in the uterus (fibroids)
  • Allergic reactions with breathing difficulties (allergic asthma)
  • Changes in sex drive
  • Blood clots in the veins of the legs or lungs
  • High blood pressure
  • Peripheral circulatory disorders
  • Enlarged and winding veins (varicose veins)
  • Digestive problems
  • Liver problems that may cause yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice)
  • Gallbladder disease
  • Breast swelling
  • Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) symptoms
  • Weight loss
  • Diseases causing destruction of red blood cells (hemolytic anemia)
  • Meningioma (brain tumor)
  • Changes in the eye surface (increased curvature of the cornea), contact lens intolerance
  • Heart attack (myocardial infarction)
  • Stroke
  • Swelling of the face and neck, which may cause breathing difficulties (angioedema)
  • Purple spots on the skin (vascular purpura)
  • Painful red lumps on the skin (erythema nodosum), skin discoloration, especially on the face or neck (chloasma or melasma), which may be permanent even after stopping the medicine
  • Leg cramps

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Femoston if you have or have had breast cancer, or if it is suspected.
  • Do not use Femoston if you have or are suspected of having cancer that depends on estrogen, such as cancer of the uterine lining.
  • Do not use Femoston if you have unexplained vaginal bleeding.
  • Do not use Femoston if you have untreated excessive growth of the uterine lining (endometrial hyperplasia).
  • Do not use Femoston if you have or have had a blood clot in a vein (e.g., in your leg or lungs).

  • Do not use Femoston if you have a blood clotting disorder (e.g., deficiency of protein C, protein S, or antithrombin).
  • Do not use Femoston if you have or have recently had a heart attack, stroke, or angina.
  • Do not use Femoston if you have or have had liver disease and your liver function tests have not returned to normal.
  • Do not use Femoston if you have a rare inherited blood disorder called porphyria.
  • Do not use Femoston if you have or have been diagnosed with meningioma (a usually benign tumor between the brain and skull).
  • Do not use Femoston if you are allergic to estradiol, dydrogesterone, or any other ingredients.
  • Stop using Femoston and see your doctor immediately if your skin or eyes turn yellow (jaundice), as this may be a sign of liver disease.
  • Stop using Femoston and see your doctor immediately if you experience swelling of the face, tongue, and/or throat, or difficulty swallowing or hives with breathing difficulties, as these may be signs of angioedema.
  • Stop using Femoston and see your doctor immediately if your blood pressure increases significantly (symptoms may include headache, tiredness, dizziness).
  • Stop using Femoston and see your doctor immediately if you experience a migraine-like headache for the first time.
  • Stop using Femoston and see your doctor immediately if you become pregnant.
  • Stop using Femoston and see your doctor immediately if you notice signs of a blood clot, such as painful swelling and redness in your legs, sudden chest pain, or difficulty breathing.
