How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 5 mg once a day. Your doctor may increase it to 10 mg once a day if needed. For elderly patients, the starting dose might be 2.5 mg once a day.

Method

Take the tablet whole with water in the morning. Do not cut, crush, or chew it. You can take it on an empty stomach or with a light, low-fat meal.

Important

Do not take more than 10 mg per day.

Possible Side Effects

  • Swelling in the ankles
  • Headache
  • Facial flushing and warmth
RARE
  • Unusually fast heart rate
  • Palpitations (heart throbbing)
  • Too low blood pressure
  • Nausea
  • Abdominal pain
  • Burning/prickling/numbness (paresthesia)
  • Rash and itching
  • Fatigue
  • Dizziness
  • Fainting
  • Vomiting
  • Hives
  • Joint pain
  • Muscle pain
  • Impotence or sexual dysfunction
  • Swollen gums
  • Increased liver enzyme values
  • Skin reactions due to increased sensitivity to sunlight
  • Inflammation of small blood vessels in the skin
  • Frequent urge to urinate
  • Hypersensitivity reaction (e.g., fever, swelling of lips and tongue)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to felodipine or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have recently had a heart attack.
  • Do not take if you have recently had severe or long-lasting chest pain (angina).
  • Do not take if you have uncontrolled heart failure.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have a heart valve or heart muscle disease.

  • Do not use if you are pregnant or think you might be. Tell your doctor if you become pregnant.
  • Stop taking this medicine and seek immediate medical help if you get an allergic reaction (e.g., hives, swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat).
  • Do not drink grapefruit juice while taking this medicine, as it can increase the effects and side effects.
  • Maintain good oral hygiene to help prevent swollen gums.
  • If you experience severe dizziness or chest pain due to very low blood pressure, seek immediate medical help.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A
