How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will prescribe the exact dosage based on the type and severity of your infection, typically 125 mg, 250 mg, or 500 mg tablets.

Method

You can take Famvir tablets with or without food.

  • Unexplained bruising, red or purple spots on the skin, or nosebleeds, which can be signs of low blood platelet count.
  • Swelling under the skin (e.g., face, around eyes, eyelids, throat).
  • Yellowing of the skin and/or eyes (signs of jaundice).
  • Reddish or purple skin spots, itching, burning sensation (signs of inflamed blood vessels).
  • Seizures
  • Difficulty breathing or swallowing, rash, itching, hives, cough, wheezing, fainting, dizziness, changes in consciousness, low blood pressure with generalized itching, skin redness, swelling of face/throat, blue discoloration of lips, tongue or skin (signs of a severe allergic reaction).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Famvir if you are allergic to famciclovir, penciclovir, or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney problems, as your dose may need to be adjusted.
  • Inform your doctor if you have a weakened immune system or liver problems.
  • If you have genital herpes, always use condoms and practice safe sex to prevent spreading the infection. Avoid sex if you have sores or blisters.
  • Famvir may cause dizziness, drowsiness, or confusion. Do not drive or operate machinery if you experience these symptoms.
