How to Use

Dosage

Famvir is taken orally, with or without food. Dosage varies depending on the infection type and immune status, typically ranging from 125 mg to 500 mg, taken once, twice, or three times daily.

Important

The maximum daily dose is usually 1500 mg (500 mg three times a day).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to famciclovir, penciclovir, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have kidney problems, liver problems, or immune system disorders.
  • If you have genital herpes, avoid sexual contact even if you have started treatment, as you can still spread the infection to others.
  • This medicine may cause dizziness, drowsiness, or confusion; do not drive or use machines if you experience these symptoms.
  • Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as Famvir should only be used if clearly necessary.

  • Famvir contains lactose; inform your doctor if you have lactose intolerance.
  • Seek immediate medical help if you experience severe blistering on skin or mucous membranes (lips, eyes, mouth, nose, genitals) which could be a sign of a severe allergic skin reaction.
  • Contact a doctor if you notice unexplained bruising, red or purple spots on the skin, or nosebleeds, which may indicate a low platelet count.
  • Report to a doctor immediately if you have swelling under the skin (e.g., face, around eyes, eyelids, throat).
  • Seek urgent medical attention for yellowing of skin and/or eyes (jaundice).
  • Get immediate medical help for seizures.
  • Call emergency services if you experience difficulty breathing or swallowing, rash, itching, hives, wheezing, cough, dizziness, altered consciousness, low blood pressure with or without generalized itching, skin redness, swelling of face/throat, or blue discoloration of lips, tongue, or skin (signs of a severe allergic reaction).
