How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is one 10 mg tablet once a day.

Method

Take the tablet by mouth at any time of day, with or without food. If you take it with a statin, you can take both medicines at the same time. If you take it with a bile acid sequestrant (like cholestyramine), take Ezetimibe ratiopharm at least 2 hours before or 4 hours after the sequestrant.

Important

The maximum daily dose is one 10 mg tablet.

  • poor appetite
  • general pain (body aches)
  • chest pain
  • hot flashes
  • high blood pressure
  • tingling feeling
  • dry mouth
  • stomach irritation
  • itching
  • skin rash
  • hives
  • back pain
  • weakness in arms and legs
  • swelling, especially in hands and feet
  • dizziness
  • liver problems
  • severe allergic reactions (including widespread rashes or target-like rashes on skin)
  • breakdown of muscle tissue (can lead to kidney problems)
  • gallstones or inflamed gallbladder (causing stomach pain, feeling sick, throwing up)
  • inflamed pancreas (causing severe stomach pain)
  • constipation
  • low blood cell count (can cause bruising or bleeding easily)
  • feeling down or depressed
  • shortness of breath

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Ezetimibe ratiopharm if you are allergic to ezetimibe or any other ingredients.
  • If you have liver problems, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, do not take Ezetimibe ratiopharm with a statin.
  • Ezetimibe ratiopharm is not recommended if you have moderate to severe liver disease, even if not taking a statin.
  • Your doctor should check your liver function with blood tests before starting Ezetimibe ratiopharm with a statin, and possibly after starting treatment.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you experience unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness. These symptoms can be serious, including muscle breakdown that can lead to kidney damage.

  • Contact your doctor immediately if you experience allergic reactions such as swelling of the face, lips, tongue, and/or throat, which may cause difficulty breathing or swallowing.

Category A

Suitable for older adults. The effectiveness of the drug alone without statin is modest. (updated 15.5.2023)
