EXOCIN eye drops are used to treat external eye infections, such as pink eye.

How to Use

Dosage

For the first two days, use 1-2 drops in the affected eye every 2-4 hours. After that, use 1-2 drops 4 times a day.

Method

Wash your hands. Tilt your head back and look up. Gently pull down your lower eyelid to form a pocket. Hold the bottle upside down and squeeze 1-2 drops into your eye. Let go of your lower eyelid and close your eye for 30 seconds. Be careful not to touch your eye or anything else with the bottle tip. Close the bottle tightly after use.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 24 drops (2 drops every 2 hours) during the first two days, and 8 drops (2 drops 4 times) after that.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Eye irritation
  • Uncomfortable feeling in the eye
RARE
  • Sudden life-threatening allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) with symptoms like swelling of the face, lips, mouth, tongue, or throat, which can block airways and cause wheezing, difficulty swallowing, or shortness of breath.
  • Potentially life-threatening skin rashes (Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis) that first appear as reddish, circular patches or small spots, often with blisters in the center.
  • Allergic reactions in the eye (including itching of the eyes and/or eyelids).
  • Skin inflammation caused by allergy (including rash, itching, or hives).
  • Inflammation of the cornea (front part of the eye)
  • Inflammation of the conjunctiva (membrane covering the front of the eye)
  • Blurred vision
  • Sensitivity to light
  • Eye swelling
  • Swelling around the eyes (including eyelid swelling)
  • Feeling of something in the eye
  • Increased tear production
  • Dry eyes
  • Eye pain
  • Redness of the eyes
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea
  • Abnormally fast heartbeat
  • Life-threatening irregular heartbeat
  • Changes in heart rhythm (seen on an ECG, a test that measures heart activity)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use EXOCIN if you are allergic to ofloxacin, benzalkonium chloride, any other ingredient, or other quinolone medicines.
  • Be extra careful if you are sensitive to other quinolone antibiotics.
  • Do not use if you have an open wound or other problem on the surface of your eye.
  • Remove soft contact lenses before use. Wait at least 15 minutes before putting them back in, as benzalkonium chloride can change their color and irritate eyes.
  • Long-term use of EXOCIN eye drops may lead to infections caused by bacteria that are resistant to the medicine.

  • EXOCIN eye drops may make your eyes more sensitive to sunlight. Avoid direct sunlight or tanning while using this medicine.
  • EXOCIN eye drops are not recommended for children under 1 year of age.
  • The preservative (benzalkonium chloride) in EXOCIN eye drops can cause eye irritation, especially if you have dry eyes or cornea problems. If you feel unusual irritation, stinging, or pain in your eye after using this medicine, contact your doctor.
