How to Use

Dosage

The typical dose is 30 to 60 mg once a day, depending on your condition. For gout, it's 120 mg daily for up to 8 days, and for dental pain, 90 mg daily for up to 3 days. Your doctor will tell you the exact dose.

Method

Take the tablet by mouth once a day. You can take it with or without food.

Important

Do not take more than 120 mg in a single day, and only for specific acute conditions for a short period as advised by your doctor. For ongoing conditions, the maximum is usually 60-90 mg daily.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Stomach pain
  • Dry socket (pain and inflammation after tooth extraction)
  • Swelling in legs or feet due to fluid buildup
  • Dizziness, headache
  • Palpitations (fast or irregular heartbeat), irregular heart rhythm
  • High blood pressure
  • Wheezing or shortness of breath
  • Constipation, gas, stomach inflammation (gastritis), heartburn, diarrhea, indigestion, nausea, vomiting, inflamed esophagus, mouth sores
  • Changes in liver function tests (blood tests)
  • Easy bruising
  • Tiredness and weakness, flu-like symptoms
RARE
  • Stomach flu, upper respiratory infection, urinary tract infection
  • Changes in blood test results (fewer red or white blood cells, fewer platelets)
  • Allergic reactions, including hives that might be serious
  • Changes in appetite (increased or decreased), weight gain
  • Anxiety, depression, confusion, hallucinations
  • Taste changes, trouble sleeping, numbness or tingling, drowsiness
  • Blurred vision, irritated or red eyes
  • Ringing in ears, vertigo (spinning sensation)
  • Abnormal heart rhythm (atrial fibrillation), fast heart rate, heart failure, chest tightness or pressure (angina), heart attack
  • Flushing, stroke, mini-stroke, severe high blood pressure, inflamed blood vessels
  • Cough, shortness of breath, nosebleeds
  • Bloating, changes in bowel habits, dry mouth, stomach ulcer, severe stomach lining inflammation (gastritis) with bleeding risk, irritable bowel, inflamed pancreas
  • Swelling of the face, skin rash or itchy skin, red skin
  • Muscle cramps or spasms, muscle pain or stiffness
  • High potassium in blood, changes in kidney function tests, severe kidney problems
  • Chest pain (not heart-related)
  • Severe allergic reaction with swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat, leading to breathing/swallowing difficulties, possibly shock
  • Confusion, restlessness
  • Liver problems (inflammation of the liver)
  • Low sodium levels in the blood
  • Liver failure, yellow skin or eyes (jaundice)
  • Severe skin reactions

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to etoricoxib or similar medicines (NSAIDs like aspirin).
  • Do not take if you have a stomach ulcer, bleeding in your stomach or intestines, or severe liver or kidney disease.
  • Do not take if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, under 16 years old, or have uncontrolled high blood pressure, heart disease, or a history of heart attack or stroke.
  • If you get shortness of breath, chest pain, or swollen ankles, especially if new or worsening, stop taking the medicine and see a doctor right away.
  • If your skin or eyes turn yellow (jaundice), which can be a sign of liver problems, stop taking the medicine and see a doctor right away.

  • If you experience severe or constant stomach pain, or if your stools turn black, stop taking the medicine and see a doctor right away.
  • If you have an allergic reaction, such as skin rash, sores, blisters, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat causing breathing difficulties, stop taking the medicine and seek urgent medical help.
