Etoricoxib Stada is a medicine that helps reduce pain and swelling in joints and muscles caused by conditions like osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, gout, and also helps with pain after dental surgery.

How to Use

Dosage

For osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, or ankylosing spondylitis, the usual dose is 30-60 mg once daily, or up to 90 mg once daily for rheumatoid arthritis/ankylosing spondylitis if needed. For gout, it's 120 mg once daily for up to 8 days. For pain after dental surgery, it's 90 mg once daily for up to 3 days.

Method

Take tablets by mouth once daily, with or without food.

Important

The maximum daily dose varies by condition: 60 mg for osteoarthritis, 90 mg for rheumatoid arthritis or ankylosing spondylitis. For gout, it's 120 mg for up to 8 days, and for dental pain, 90 mg for up to 3 days. If you have mild liver disease, the maximum is 60 mg daily; for moderate liver disease, it's 30 mg daily.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Stomach ache
  • Dry socket (pain after tooth extraction)
  • Swelling in legs and/or feet due to fluid retention
  • Dizziness, headache
  • Fast or irregular heartbeat
  • High blood pressure
  • Wheezing or shortness of breath (bronchospasm)
  • Digestive problems (constipation, gas, stomach inflammation, heartburn, diarrhea, indigestion, nausea, vomiting, inflammation of the esophagus, mouth sores)
  • Changes in liver blood test results
  • Bruising
  • Weakness and tiredness, flu-like symptoms
RARE
  • Stomach and intestinal infection, upper respiratory infection, urinary tract infection
  • Changes in lab values (decreased red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets)
  • Hypersensitivity (allergic reaction including hives)
  • Increased or decreased appetite, weight gain
  • Anxiety, depression, decreased mental sharpness, hallucinations
  • Taste changes, trouble sleeping, numbness or tingling, drowsiness
  • Blurred vision, eye irritation and redness
  • Ringing in ears, vertigo (feeling of spinning while standing still)
  • Abnormal heart rhythm (atrial fibrillation), fast heart rate, heart failure, feeling of tightness, pressure or heaviness in the chest (angina pectoris), heart attack
  • Flushing, stroke, mini-stroke (TIA), severe increase in blood pressure, inflammation of blood vessels
  • Cough, shortness of breath, nosebleed
  • Abdominal swelling, changes in bowel habits, dry mouth, stomach ulcer, serious stomach inflammation that can cause bleeding, irritable bowel, pancreatitis
  • Facial swelling, rash or itchy skin, red skin
  • Muscle cramps or spasms, muscle pain or stiffness
  • High potassium levels in blood, changes in kidney function blood or urine tests, severe kidney disease
  • Chest pain
  • Angioedema (severe allergic reaction with swelling of face, lips, tongue and/or throat, which may cause breathing or swallowing difficulties)
  • Confusion, restlessness
  • Liver disorders (hepatitis)
  • Low sodium levels in blood
  • Liver failure, yellow skin and/or eyes (jaundice)
  • Severe skin reactions

Important Warnings

  • Stop taking this medicine and call your doctor right away if you have shortness of breath, chest pain, or swollen ankles that are new or getting worse.
  • Stop taking this medicine and call your doctor right away if your skin or eyes turn yellow (jaundice), as these can be signs of liver problems.
  • Stop taking this medicine and call your doctor right away if you have severe or persistent stomach pain, or if your stool turns black.
  • Stop taking this medicine and call your doctor right away if you have an allergic reaction with skin problems like sores or blisters, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, which can cause breathing difficulties.
  • Do not use if you are under 16 years old.

  • Do not use if you are allergic to etoricoxib, aspirin, or other NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs).
  • Do not use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Do not use if you have a stomach ulcer or bleeding in your stomach or intestines.
  • Do not use if you have severe liver or kidney disease.
  • Do not use if you have high blood pressure that is not controlled by medication, heart failure, a recent heart attack, bypass surgery, peripheral artery disease, or a stroke.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. For short-term use only. Consider adverse renal effect in chronic kidney disease. Do not use in severe renal impairment. May increase swelling, worsen renal and cardiac failure and cause cardiovascular events. Risk of gastrointestinal bleeding less than with traditional NSAIDs. Consider potential interactions especially with preparations that increase risk of bleeding. (updated 16.9.2024)
