Etoricoxib Sandoz helps reduce pain and swelling (inflammation) in joints and muscles, for example with arthritis or rheumatism, and is also used for short-term pain after dental surgery.

How to Use

Dosage

Always follow your doctor's instructions. The usual dose is 30-60 mg once daily, but it can be up to 120 mg for short periods for some conditions like gout.

Method

Take the tablet by mouth once a day. You can take it with or without food. Taking it without food might make it work faster.

Possible Side Effects

  • Stomach pain
  • Swelling in legs or feet (fluid retention)
  • Dizziness, headache
  • Fast or irregular heartbeat
  • High blood pressure
  • Wheezing or shortness of breath
  • Constipation, gas, heartburn, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, mouth sores
  • Weakness, tiredness, flu-like symptoms
  • Changes in liver blood test results
  • Bruising tendency
RARE
  • Stomach or bowel infection
  • Sore throat, urinary tract infection
  • Anemia (low red blood cells), pale skin, feeling weak or breathless
  • Increased risk of bleeding or bruising (low platelets)
  • Allergic reactions, including hives
  • Weight gain, changes in appetite
  • Anxiety, depression, confusion, hallucinations, trouble sleeping, numbness, tingling
  • Blurred vision, eye irritation or redness
  • Ringing in ears, feeling dizzy or spinning
  • Heart problems (e.g., fast, irregular heartbeat, heart failure, chest pain, heart attack)
  • Stroke, mini-stroke, very high blood pressure, inflammation of blood vessels with rash
  • Cough, nosebleeds
  • Swelling of the face, skin rash or itching, skin redness
  • Muscle cramps, muscle pain or stiffness
  • Kidney problems (changes in urine tests, severe kidney disease)
  • Liver problems (hepatitis, liver failure, yellow skin/eyes)
  • Low sodium in blood (tiredness, confusion, muscle twitching, seizures, coma)
  • Severe skin reactions

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to etoricoxib or similar pain medicines (NSAIDs).
  • Do not take if you have a stomach ulcer, bleeding in your stomach or intestines, severe liver or kidney disease, or are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Do not take if you have uncontrolled high blood pressure, heart disease (like heart failure or a past heart attack), or a history of stroke.
  • Stop taking and call your doctor right away if you get shortness of breath, chest pain, swollen ankles, yellow skin/eyes, severe stomach pain, black stools, or a severe allergic reaction (rash, swelling of face/throat, trouble breathing).

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. For short-term use only. Consider adverse renal effect in chronic kidney disease. Do not use in severe renal impairment. May increase swelling, worsen renal and cardiac failure and cause cardiovascular events. Risk of gastrointestinal bleeding less than with traditional NSAIDs.
