Etoricoxib Orion helps relieve pain and swelling in joints and muscles for conditions like osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and gout, and is also used for short-term relief of moderate pain after dental surgery.

How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will determine the right dose for you based on your condition. Typically, it's 30-90 mg once a day, depending on your illness.

Method

Take the tablets by mouth once a day. You can take them with or without food.

Important

Do not exceed the dose prescribed by your doctor. The maximum daily dose varies by condition, for example, up to 60 mg/day for osteoarthritis and up to 90 mg/day for rheumatoid arthritis. For gout, the maximum is 120 mg/day for a short period, and for dental pain, 90 mg/day for up to 3 days.

  • Swelling of the lower legs and/or feet due to fluid retention
  • Dizziness, headache
  • Palpitations (fast or irregular heartbeats), irregular heart rhythm (arrhythmia)
  • High blood pressure
  • Wheezing or shortness of breath (bronchospasm)
  • Constipation, gas, stomach inflammation, heartburn, diarrhea, indigestion/stomach upset, nausea, vomiting, inflammation of the esophagus, mouth ulcers
  • Changes in liver function blood test results
  • Bruising
  • Fatigue and weakness, flu-like symptoms
RARE
  • Gastrointestinal inflammation (stomach and small intestine inflammation / stomach flu), upper respiratory infection, urinary tract infection
  • Changes in lab values (decreased red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets)
  • Hypersensitivity (allergic reaction, including hives, which can be severe enough to require immediate medical attention)
  • Increased or decreased appetite, weight gain
  • Anxiety, depression, decreased mental sharpness, hallucinations
  • Taste disturbance, insomnia, numbness or tingling, sleepiness
  • Blurred vision, eye irritation and redness
  • Ringing in the ears, vertigo (feeling of spinning while standing still)
  • Abnormal heart rhythm (atrial fibrillation), rapid heartbeat, heart failure, feeling of tightness, pressure, or heaviness in the chest (angina pectoris), heart attack
  • Flushing, stroke, mini-stroke (TIA), severe high blood pressure, blood vessel inflammation
  • Cough, shortness of breath, nosebleed
  • Abdominal bloating; changes in bowel function, dry mouth, stomach ulcer, stomach lining inflammation that can become serious and cause bleeding, irritable bowel, pancreatitis
  • Facial swelling, rash or itchy skin, red skin
  • Muscle cramps or spasms, muscle pain or stiffness
  • High blood potassium levels, changes in kidney function test results in urine or blood, severe kidney disease
  • Chest pain
  • Severe allergic reaction with swelling of the face, lips, tongue, and/or throat (angioedema) which can cause difficulty breathing or swallowing and requires immediate medical attention, or anaphylactic shock
  • Confusion, restlessness
  • Liver problems (liver inflammation)
  • Low blood sodium levels
  • Liver failure, yellowing of skin and/or eyes
  • Severe skin reactions

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to etoricoxib or any other ingredients.
  • Do not take this medicine if you currently have a stomach ulcer or bleeding in your stomach or intestines.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to other anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like aspirin or COX-2 inhibitors.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have severe liver disease or severe kidney disease.

  • Do not give this medicine to children under 16 years old.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have an inflammatory bowel disease (e.g., Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis).
  • Do not take this medicine if you have a heart condition, such as heart failure, chest pain, or high blood pressure that is not controlled by medication.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have had a heart attack, bypass surgery, poor circulation in your legs, a stroke, or a mini-stroke (TIA).
  • Tell your doctor if you are dehydrated due to prolonged vomiting or diarrhea.
  • Tell your doctor if you have swelling due to fluid retention.
  • Your doctor will check your blood pressure regularly, especially if you are taking high doses, as this medicine can increase blood pressure in some people.
  • Etoricoxib Orion can mask fever, a sign of infection, if you are being treated for an infection.
  • Tell your doctor if you have diabetes, high cholesterol, or if you smoke, as these can increase your risk of heart disease.
  • This medicine is not recommended for women trying to become pregnant.
  • If you are over 65 years old, your doctor may want to monitor your health.
  • Do not drive or use machines if you feel dizzy or sleepy while taking this medicine.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. For short-term use only. Consider adverse renal effect in chronic kidney disease. Do not use in severe renal impairment. May increase swelling, worsen renal and cardiac failure and cause cardiovascular events. Risk of gastrointestinal bleeding less than with traditional NSAIDs. Consider potential interactions especially with preparations that increase risk of bleeding. (updated 16.9.2024)
